Miss Alicia is a DJ, organizer, visual artist, and designer. Since getting her start in the nightlife community during the pandemic, Alicia has worked tirelessly to uphold an ethos of spreading joy to the community through her bombastic DJ sets, DIY parties, art installations, and graphic design work for musicians. Behind the decks she spins a blend of house, funk, global, and cheeky edits to create a room that dances with a smile on its face. In addition to producing independent events, Miss Alicia is a regular at New York institutions such as Good Room, House of Yes, Jupiter Disco and many more. 

Miss Alicia is resident at family friendly DIY party Sweet Kicks alongside Karlala and Rose Kourts, which runs on the hot pink battery powered Karlala Soundsystem. She is also half of Ūmboma, a collaboration with ambient artist and DJ Omar Ahmad. Ūmboma is a sonically global-forward project which blends Afro, Arab, and Latin contemporary rhythms in a communal narrative.

Moving Company has thrown some of the most exciting parties of 2023 and 2024 with an emphasis on mobile dance parties in unique places like the middle of the Williamsburg Bridge, and in a movie theatre in Greenpoint Brooklyn.

Coming to you live and direct from the Funky Seshwa at Good Room's hi-fi dancefloor, The Bad Room, we have an archived live dj mix from one of Brooklyn funkiest, Adeline! 

The mix is from February 20th, 2020 and features funk classics, soulful grooves, and some house that got the floor running at peak time before we had a live performance by Jitwam!

Funky Seshwa Mix Series 003: Adi Oasis (DJ Set) Live In The Bad Room 2.20.20

Definitely one of the illest mixes in the archive - we got the legendary Marley Marl live from our party with him on 3.28.19!

This mix is special because it takes Marley out of the box as not just a hip-hop DJ but an OG NYC staple DJ, playing the sounds that influenced him on his come up. Expect sounds from 1980's New York, classic funk + David Mancuso inspired tracks, and one of Marley's true loves: hard-hitting house music!... all with Marley's trademark turntable skills that make him one of NYC's finest party rockers.

Back from hiatus, the Seshwa mix series returns with episode 5 featuring the MAYOR of Mexico City's dance music scene, @Paurrro, for a solid 2 hours of peak-time house music!

Paurro has dedicated herself to sharing music as a DJ & cultural curator, creating spaces to elevate the artists in her community. Paurro is also well known for her allegiance to the LGBTQ+ community in Mexico and beyond.

She is the head of booking and programming at Aire Libre, Mexico City's eclectic radio station where she hosts a weekly show called Femme Soul.

Natasha has been lighting up dance floors across the globe with her energetic and eclectic brand of underground disco. She is the label boss of Ghetto Disco Records (UK) and a recent addition to the Defected & Glitterbox rosters. It is with absolute joy that we present her Funky Seshwa guest mix!! 

Born and raised in Edinburgh into a soul music obsessed family, Natasha was introduced to rare Soul, Funk, Boogie and Rare Disco from a young age.

Spotted by the main influencers in the Disco & House scene Natasha quickly took up residency at seminal events such as: Southport Weekender / Festival, UK, Suncebeat Festival, Croatia, Liverpool Disco Festival, Ocean Beach Ibiza & Pikes Ibiza. Recently, Natasha Kitty Katt was snapped up by the Defected Glitterbox imprint and is now playing at their Global Events around the world.
As a producer, her releases have gained interest with tracks out on Glitterbox Recordings, Tropical Disco Records, Midnight Riot, No Fuss Records, Masterworks Music, Paper Recordings, Tribe & Situationism. The House Music Legends are also paying attention with an imminent release on DJ Spen’s label UnQuantize & Louie Vega MAW has reworked two of her tracks for his forthcoming album on Nervous Records.

Funky Seshwa Mix Series 007: Natasha Kitty Katt August 2020 Guest Mix

Born, raised, and trained in the Panama jazz scene, we are so lucky to have our Harlem based brother, and Funky Seshwa resident instrumentalist on trumpet, Aquiles Navarro aka Squalito Romantico, grace us with an amazing guest mix of Latin heat for #008! If you've been to some of our parties it's likely that you've seen Aquiles rip it on the trumpet. 

It's 2 hours of mostly vinyl straight from Aquiles collection including some of his favorite jams from Fania + we even get a little guest appearance from friend NY Knick!

 If you don't know Aquiles, he's one of those cats who has been hustling hard from a young age and was taught by the greats. His musical journey started in Panama when he was in his early teens, where he was mentored by Panamanian jazz great Victor Paz (who played with Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Palmieri, and many Fania greats) and Carlos Garnett, who played with Miles, Freddie Hubbard, and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

Aquiles has seen great success touring with world-renowned touring Avante garde jazz group, Irreversible Entanglements, and can also be seen featured on modern and soulful dance music records produced by our friends David Marston and Jitwam.

Nico joined us in full effect for a friends and family weekender upstate at Glen Falls House in the Catskills, NY. This set was recorded on Saturday night from 11-12:30am in front of a raging fire in the open-mountain air with 2 CDJS and a Condesa Mixer. We've got a ton of heat from this weekend that we'll be dropping on the world soon. The energy was palpable!  Get ready to dance..

Nickodemus is known throughout the world for his diverse blend of soul-shaking styles, always remaining true to the roots of his beloved Turntables on the Hudson parties, a staple in the NYC live and dance music scene for the last 20 years. His sound is based in the connective tissue of his numerous live collaborations with artists across the world. This ethos is fully embodied in his record label, Wonderwheel Recordings, which not only releases some of the most eclectic sounds in global dance music, but also focuses deeply on artist development and longevity. The music you hear in his releases and on his label are filled with expression, reflection, and care; they’re both open-minded and deeply focused.

Cedar Sounds Workshop is comprised of legendary A1 Records tastemaker DJ Monchan and veteran of the groove producer, DJ, and label owner, Bradford James. The name is a reference to Toshi’s old hi-fi crib in Bushwick (inspired by The Loft) where late night journeys featuring underground heroes & special guests welcomed Sunday mornings & afternoons. 

This recording was from one heady ass Thursday night on the Bad Room system. Live & Directtttt from The Funky Seshwa (around 1AM-ish, it the homies Cedar Sound Workshop in the mix.
