Thought this'd be a perfect one for Valentine's Day coming up. This came about after a series of serendipitous events in early december 2013, talking with Ness, The Herbal Hustler about Bill, led to making a mini-bill mix (maybe i'll put that out one day if I expand on it), to watching the documentary "Still Bill" and on the plane ride home, I thought to myself "I'd like Just the Two Of US alot better without Grover's sax" so, I started working on it just for fun. Well, here's how it turned out. Just the Vocal Bill parts chopped, some magic that could only come from the great heart of Bill Withers! 

 Time WIth You is a personal one, lots of heart opening while I was working on it, and what was going on with myself, my wife, my best friend Ness, and her boyfriend. It's about spending one-on-one time with those you love, which is so so important when the relationship is deep. Whether it's a: mother, father, grandma or grandpa, brother or sister, wife or husband, daughter or son, homie, friend, soul mate, or twin soul. Whether renewing an old friendship, or starting a new one, all the words you need to voice how you feel were sung by Bill 30 some years ago.

So, to dedicate, on my travels, I of course interact and sometimes hangout with the Girlfriends & Wives of my Musical Peers. They always tell me the SAME THING. "Gaff, make sure you make the most of your time with your lady when you're at home" So, really, this song is for them, missing their men, and to all my brothers travelling or touring on the road, "make the most of your time with YOUR ladies when you're at home!"

 For everyone who DOESN'T have someone this year, as well as those who are in an unfulfilling relationship that's lost it's spark, or never had one in the first place....Valentine's can be a source of pain and heartache for people the world over, whether single OR in relationship.....we all feel lonely at times....In my personal healing practice, when a client comes in wanting to find a meaningful love relationship, I have to find the part of them that is lost and lonely by connecting with that part in myself.......To feel the times I've been lonely and grasping and gasping...It's called empathy....Usually, once we truly feel our loneliness and stop running from it through overwork, drugs, alcohol, non-commital flings, etc.....we come to a point where we have to face it.....whether true friends help us, family, a healer or we do it solo, we come to that place of pain in our hearts. Feeling what's really there, the sadness, we do what needs to be done and eventually find a breakthrough and don't feel so lonely cuz we've come to love ourselves in a new and powerful way, at which point we can truly "find" someone who is meaningful or has real potential......a real "Valentine", whatever time of the year they happen to come..... 
 This song can help you connect with your Loneliness. I connected with my Loneliness and longing while making it, I've been a single father twice over, been isolated missing my lover or favorite friends...Had to learn alot of tough lessons about loneliness...In December, while I was working on this, My wife came down while I was making it on the first day and said "I have to have you right now, I can't take it anymore" ---Split second decision and I took care of her right then and there. This song took her to her loneliness even while making dinner in the kitchen upstairs.
 Tell a friend you love them. You care about them. Whether they are single or in an unsatisfactory relationship. Fuck all that shallow shit. You don't need to be that way. Be a lover and warrior for Love.
 Sometimes we can't be with the people we love the most. Not now, not ever (in this life). That is also a painful realization I've had to be help clients and friends through over and over...You'll find a new love....And then, there's the people who've departed from us in the physical world and "left us behind", and you can only wait to find out the truth when you die......my heart goes out to all of you in this song with Bill, and I've arranged it so that he is You speaking to THAT PERSON, or those people. Echoing what's in your heart. 
 Mark Twain said "the 2 most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why" I'd like to add a 3rd, it's the day you stop caring what anyone else thinks about you expressing your deepest truth and feelings and you take the leap and do it. Over and over and over again. Peace.

BUSSIN ft.Johanna Phraze

When Featurecast & The Gaff got a chance to play together recently, it didn't take long to get to talking about their mutual love for Stevie Wonder's "Hey Love" and how the world needed an edit of it, and just like that, a few sleepless nights, some dusty records and a little bit of finesse: "Ain't Got Time" was born! The ultimate Marvin Gaye meets Stevie Wonder track that never existed......So why did a collabo between these two legends never happen? They both recorded for Motown at the same time and were fans of each other!....Here's a little history lesson: 
 "Too busy thinkin bout my baby" was written by the Motown team of Whitfield, Strong, and Bradford in 1965, and first recorded by The Temptations a year later.
Marvin's cover of the tune came out a few years later, and was his 2nd biggest hit of the 60's, right after "Heard It Through The Grapevine" in 1969 at the age of 30...Curious who was in Marvin's heart as he was singin this? If You do the math, it's none other than Tammi Terrel, who he fell deeply in love with as they began working on their tracks ("ain't no mountain high enough) around the same time....Unfortunately, Tammi wasn't into Marvin in that way! She was much younger, early 20's, and apparently favored "darker men", Marvin was a light skinned brother, and perhaps wasn't what caught her eye? Well, that's the breaks, Tammi put on a good show for sure...
Now, Marvin Gaye was 11 years older than Stevie Wonder, who, at the time, was about to breakthrough to his hugely successful crossover lp's at only 19 with "Signed Sealed Delivered"! 
Stevie Wonder's "Hey Love" had come out on his album "Down TO Earth" in '66, at only 16, and a dope version was covered later by SoulSister Bettye Lavette, You should check it! Not many know about that cover :-)
So, there was a big age gap, with marvin bringout out songs of soulful love in his 30's, and Stevie bringin the Funk in his 20's!!!
in 1991, almost 25 years after it was released, De La Soul would flip "Hey Love" into "Talkin bout Hey Love" where it was brought back all over again for a new generation of Hip Hop heads around the world (a young skateboarding gaffer and a LIl Featurecast being 2 of them :-) 
25 years after that, we added in the horns from an early Serge Gainsbourg record so this tune would appeal to fans of De La Soul, be enjoyed by Motown lovers, and any fans of DJ's with dope cuts.....Sampled the OG records to provide the instrumental parts used...
We kept this mix so classic, for old and young alike, even your grandma can still appreciate it, nod her head to the fatback drums, dope cuts and scratches....we hope this version makes its rounds for a long time to come, giving you the Marvin & Stevie collaberation that you always wished for.......cheers!

Featuring the vocals of Caleb Hart, born in Tobago and residing on the west coast of Canada. It's a sure shot Electronic Global Bass banger clocking at 127 BPM and somewhat defies categorization; with elements of Calypso, Bass House, a dark piano groove and Vocals.

Its my 1st single from my new EP: Soul Vibrations, and i've included the instrumental here for my Bandcamp followers.

"Borneo fits into the category of what I call "super jazz", ie: Jazz that is great for everyone and every "body". It's taken from Cal Tjader's early 60's LP; 'Several Shades Of Jade' on Verve. The back of the jacket states: "The sound and feeling of the music of the Orient combine with the freedom of American Jazz"  and I featured it on my 'Funk The World 13' mix for Fort Knox Five. This edit (really a remix, but the terminology has changed lately) is part of a new series I'll be doing called "G got the Jazz"; a result of people really yearning to hear & dance to some different & amazing sounds. There is a TONNE of awesome, potentially danceable Jazz music that can really keep the party going IF given the right treatment (drums & sub bass in this instance). Having first been used in Hip Hop by Daddy Kev for his track with Awol; "Rhythm", this edit is a sureshot winner for eclectic dj's and crowds the world over. All samples are recorded from vinyl, so, from my record collection to your laptop, ENJOY!   -  The Gaff
