With the release of their debut EP, The Gills depict a folk landscape that is both spartan and lushly depicted, relying on a poetic combination of melody and lyricism to bear the weight of the listener on a rewarding journey.

Aptly titled "In the Beginning," the Baltimore-based married couple began writing this slate of spiritually-tinged tunes during two years spent in the Philippines as volunteers for the Peace Corps. The stark separation from American culture gave rise to a set of songs that stand as an apt counterpoint to the folk rock now well-established on top-40 radio. While fans will doubtlessly hear echoes of Mumford & Sons in the driving spirit of songs like "Swords," the songs of the Gills distinguish themselves by rising over nameless shores and speaking a universal language.

The lead single "Windless Sail" puts the stunning vocal inflections of Liza Gill at center stage. "I get a sense of nostalgia for the season we were in when we wrote this song -- feeling a bit stuck, yet aware of opportunity on the horizon," Liza recounts. "Peace can find you in those moments, if you let it.”

"In the Beginning" will be released in full on 29 Jan 2021. In the meantime, the band will be raising their newborn daughter and working on the follow-up full length.
