For the 28th instalment of our mix series, GAB is honoured to present @gunfingerfood , one of our favourite independent vinyl record labels and radio shows. Through a range of sublime mixes for platforms such as Bloop, Threads, Hoots TV, AAJA and a ridiculously large b2b with Earful of Wax on Late Night Shopper, Lex G has propelled Gunfinger Food forward as a prominent advocate of underground vinyl culture. The label’s two physical releases featuring Cyphon & Observ, Bobo and Pépe offer up high quality productions varying from breakbeat to electro. 

In the first half of his GAB guest mix, Lex G explores a range of underground styles, effortlessly blending current breakbeat gems with acid and electro heaters. But from the 40 min mark, the hardcore takes over. The incredibly humble Lex actually apologised for extending our standard hour-long session as he delved deeper and deeper into his collection of euphoric 90s hardcore. However, we’ve got a feeling that any listeners won’t be complaining.

On this glorious Sunday we welcome Oisin to the series, supplying us with a smooth hour of spacey and far out beats. Expect an extraterrestrial housey groove loaded with matured wafters from the 90s, with tracks from the likes of Juan Atkins, Santiago Uribe, Bicycle Thieves and Shades of Black. 

Oisin is a Dubliner DJ, now based in London, who plays a wide variety of styles which are showcased in the diversity of his shows on Alto Radio and Brixton Radio. From little-known UKG gems to dark 90s electro, Oisin’s mixes always pack a whammy.

Pick 'n' Mix #31: Oisin

Intergalactic Crud w/ Amaliah

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by a specific sequence of notes that’s nestled in many musical pieces.
 
An essential example is Tangerine Dream’s ‘Love On A Real Train’, from their soundtrack to the 1983 film Risky Business. But it’s also there in Steve Reich’s ‘Music For 18 Musicians’ (which premiered in 1976), and quite possibly in earlier works I’m yet to encounter.
 
After decades of noticing the same sequence reappearing in tunes I love (and countless hours of blissful listening), I’ve recorded a mix in tribute to these evocative, eternal tones.

Whilst each track is a ‘relative’ in some way, the selection is by no means exhaustive. Indeed, in keeping with the concept, many favourites have been withheld.

Special thanks to Anastasia for the gorgeous artwork, and to Will, Chris and Laurel for your inspiration and encouragement. You guys are the best.

I hope this sparks more conversations and discoveries with anyone who resonates.

Free Shelter invites the Dublin born, electronic music connoisseur @oisin-e34, for the 22nd installment of their guest mix series on IDA Radio.

Oisín is a Dublin raised, London based DJ & co-founder of Hypha. A new creative marketing and promo agency assisting independent, underground electronic artists and labels. Helping with sorting our all those promo mails that get lost in the mix, and really focuses on sorting through what works individually for their clients. 

Groomed by the underground scene of Dublin, his knowledge in the landscape of electronic music, no matter the genre, is one we should all strive for. This almost historian approach to the scene is what separates him from the rest. 

His mix traverses a number of different styles including 00's minimal, dub techno, Detroit electro, breakbeat & some of the finest deep house to ever come out of Ireland. Take a bow

Independent Vinyl only Record label Based in London, Gunfinger Food has cooked up an absolute monster of a mix with a variety of sounds to take you on a tasty 2 hour trip. 

What Started off as a monthly radio show in July 2019 to showcase all  types of broken beats and underground rave sounds has now led into establishing the brand as an independent vinyl record label following the same ethos, with 001 out and 002 almost landing.

Lots more releases lined up next year, working with new artists and existing talent.
