Cleric hails from Manchester in the North of England and describes his precision designed, heavy techno tracks as a means to translate emotion to others; to transport his intuitive feel for timing, tension and sound engineering to listeners far and wide.

Over three tracks, Cleric's functional and tense take on the modern techno sound keeps things nicely restrained, loaded with kinetic energy and heavy potential for well-tuned sound systems. 'Pattern One', '…Two' and '…Three' each offer a different angle on a central theme, that revolves around sizable kick drums, crisp cutting hats and percussion, and smooth dub-themed synth elements that all dance in spacious unison. 

Len Faki also lends his hand to 'Pattern One', introducing a crafty breakdown to the proceedings and his trademark builds and cuts, completing this essential package.

UK based Techno producer best known by his work on the Belgium based Token Records and whose style ranges from gritty minimal techno to Detroit influenced material. Originally a Mastering engineer, Ø[Phase] began producing as a sideline, releasing his debut 'Module Overload' on Steve Bicknell's Lost/Cosmic records in 2000. This was followed by a string of productions for London's Surface/Inceptive Records and Ben Sims Ingoma imprint, all of which saw consistent big name support throughout the techno community. He started working with Token in 2007 and since then his music has progressively gained more & more worldwide attention - most significantly on 2012's much acclaimed 'Binary Opposition' single and subsequent 'Reprocessed' remix package. Recent times have seen him remix for the likes of Robert Hood, Peter Van Hoesen & Mark Broom amongst others while avid support from Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock have led to several appearances at Berghain in Berlin. Bulgarian producer KiNK follows up releases on Pets Recordings and Running Back with his take on the 'Accident In Paradise', adding a whole new level of weirdness.

But who said weird is a bad thing? The whacky synths and squiggly rhythms he injects into this are the kind we love, so when the epic string work and rattling tribal drums seeped in on our first listen, we instantly stamped it with that A* grade.

After Architectural’s Heaven Can Wait EP from earlier this year, North Lake here supplies three techno gems on this 12” for Maceo Plex’s Ellum, following up a string of hit releases with Sweatshop, Phonica, Permanent Vacation and others. Each track displays North Lake’s expert craft in a different way. Opening up is ‘Shimmer Land’, who’s haunting melodies and textures grow and grow throughout the track, over an undeniably infectious, tightly swung drum groove. Next up is ‘Solid Metal Funk’, which immediately lives up to its name with percussive stabs of metallic FM synthesis. These stabs form a rhythmic and melodic backbone for the track, dancing around over five minutes while simple drums hold this effortlessly danceable composition together. The B side of this 12” is ‘Paper Dreams’, which quickly disregards the lightness of its precursor in favour of a clearly deep house inspired techno, using swirling synths and emotional melodies in careful equilibrium. The result is a track that simultaneously pulls one half of you into a trancelike, insular state, and the other half of you to the centre of the dancefloor. The perfect end to this sublime, multifaceted EP.
