My own taste in music can be described as heavily focused on rock/prog rock primarily from the 1970s- from psychedelic to jazz fusion to hard rock or early metal. Specifically: 
Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Nektar, Camel, Beatles, some Sabbath, Gong (jazz fusion years), Eloy, The Doors,Pink Floyd, Boston, early Rainbow, Jethro Tull, The Who, The Guess Who, Hendrix's slow ballads, Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heep, ELP, The Police, Gabriel-era Genesis with the exception of their debut album, Bowie's early stuff, Steely Dan and several more..

I also like late 60s rock (early Deep Purple, Hawkwind and Floyd from the psychedelic period) and a few oldies but music beyond the 80s not as much. I think some fairly modern stuff is cool too (Radiohead, Oasis, grunge and alternative) but I like the 70s era
