Teaser by our musician Simon R. Goff for upcoming work with the guts company in Dresden, 'Das Fremde/ ALIENIdentität'. The work is looking at the phenomenon of Das Fremde (strange/alien/foreign) and how we as performers position ourselves to these feelings and issues. Romy Schwarzer und Johanna Roggan begaben sich 2017 auf Spurensuche zu Mary Wigmans tänzerischem Erbe. Ausgangspunkt der Bewegungsentwicklung waren Teile der Eröffnungszeremonie der Olympischen Spiele 1936, welche Wigman mitchoreografierte.

Versatzstücke der Zeremonie wurden extrahiert, wiederholt, verlangsamt, beschleunigt und forwährend auf den Prüfstand gestellt, inwieweit Wigmans Tanz-Sprache etwas mit Schwarzers und Roggans Bewegungs-Ästhetik zu tun hat und was es bedeutet, heutzutage diese doch sehr dramatisierten Bewegungen in einen zeitgenössischen Kontext zu stellen.

In „variations on_Mary“ suchen Schwarzer und Roggan, gemeinsam mit Josefine Wosahlo (Performance) nach dem Ineinandergreifen von „dramatisiertem Wigman-Material“, dem choreografischen Prinzip ‚Wiederholungen‘ und erweitern, zusammen mit Benjamin Schindler (Video) und Moritz Simon Geist (Robotik), die Arbeit um das Medium Video und durch Roboter erzeugte Musik.

Für die erste Produktion innerhalb des Zyklus „Power to Whom“ setzen wir, the guts company, uns mit dem Theatertext "Am Königsweg" von Elfriede Jelinek auseinander. Der Abend geht der These nach: ohne Masse, keine Macht. Aber auch der Frage, was sind Menschen bereit, hinter sich zu lassen, nur um zu dieser Masse dazuzugehören?

Zwei Tänzerinnen auf der Bühne und eine Schauspielerin auf 11 Leinwänden begeben sich in einen großen Reigen aus Führen und Folgen - Unterwerfung, Wortgewandtheit, Blendung, Verheißung, Wiederholung - den Zutaten für eine erfolgreiche Führerschaft über eine Masse an identitätshungrigen, endlich-nicht-mehr-orientierungslosen, wie-auch-immer-aufrechten neuen Bürger*innen.

Am Königsweg nach Elfriede Jelinek | MACHT#1

In 2013 Johanna Roggan and Josefine Wosahlo founded the guts company.
The company´s artistic goal is to create contemporary dance productions which touch the audience on a “gut level”. Besides that it is aiming to contribute to the art and dance scene in Dresden, to strengthen the region´s structure.

With Johanna Roggan as artistic director the company was managed by Josefine Wosahlo and since August 2015 by Dana Bondartschuk as well as Johanna Roggan herself. They are highly engaged in the local dance scene and their developments over the past years. Thus the connection to the city is very strong and the decision to work in a place which has low freelancing structure is consciously chosen. Bringing Dresden based artists from various fields together with those from other cities and countries therefore is the intention and request. The strengthening of such connections has effects on two directions: It brings Dresden and Dresden artist with their works out into the world, at the same time it invigorates
Dresden´s scene by integrating different influences and in best case can be and become a centre of attraction for artists. Out of all that the company is based in Dresden.

the guts company works like an open network and is constantly looking for project-matching dancers, musicians, visual artists, stage designers and so on. The establishment of different contexts is a main aspect of the work which is headed to stimulate exchange and fluent inspiration through the collaborating artists themselves as well as the chosen subjects. Cross genres contemporary dance pieces, video dance works, site-specific productions, interactive productions and performative installations arise from these contexts. The works are dealing with a highly physical atmosphere, not only reduced on technical skills but rather using a certain quality that literally moves the performers - and in consequence the watching audience.
