Hey people! In the spirit of the summer and so much free time to chill and play guitar, I've started a new solo project! This first song is based off a riff I wrote based loosely on a variation of the opening chord voicing for Chon's "Bubble Dream," and things more or less unfolded from there. I had a blast both writing and recording this track to share with all of you, and I hope you all can find something you like about it too!

Q&A with The Perrin Sequence

Roberto Granados is a classical, flamenco, and electric guitarist and composer from Northern California. He began studying guitar at the age of six with Hungarian classical guitarist Gyorgy Vass, and has since studied under Marc Teicholz and Sergio Assad of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, among others.

Roberto's debut album "Autonome" was initially recorded as a series of scattered demos in the late Winter of 2015, with many of these demos exhibiting a highly experimental approaches toward instrumental metal composition, drawing from the harsh style of bands such as Meshuggah and Vildhjarta, and from modern classical music. These approaches included the use of minimalistic yet highly rhythmic guitar playing, the twelve-tone row method pioneered by iconic modern classical composer Arnold Schoenberg, and highly dissonant, harsh musical voicings. “Autonome” was re-recorded in Spring 2016, and was released on June 10, 2016 with an exclusive premiere by The Circle Pit. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Roberto and featured artwork designed by Finnish artist Sami Ahvenainen.

After the release of this debut album, Roberto began composing for a four-track EP to be released mid-summer. This EP was to be titled “The Sky is Not the Limit,” again a hint to his unique creative approach toward metal guitar composition. Initially born from three different guitar riffs written on three guitars - the first on a six string guitar, the second on a seven string guitar, and the last on an eight string guitar - the EP takes a more melodic approach than “Autonome,” with more focus on consonant guitar harmonies and featuring a guest appearance by Canadian jazz fusion/progressive metal guitarist Heyden Jennekens (Reaybank). This EP was mastered by VGo Recordings and also featured artwork designed by Sami Ahvenainen, with a release date of August 31, 2016 through DjentWorldwide TV.

"Highly complex yet flowing, The Sky is Not the Limit sees weaving guitar and bass melodies twisting and turning around each other...arrangements just grab hold of you and take you on a mind altering journey. Nothing here is overly heavy, but there is just enough crunch in the guitar on some of the songs to keep this in the metal camp, yet when Granados goes for some soaring, thought provoking melodies, as on “Cloud 9,” it’s classic jazz fusion/prog rock all the way."
