Brand new single featuring Les 'Fruitbat' Carter from Carter USM

Released on Bark Like a Dog Records November 12th 2021

The Fades went into Brixton Hill Studios in London after writing a load of songs during the second lockdown. The band wanted to capture the pent up energy and true live feeling of the band and nation as a whole. 
Working with classic analogue equipment they managed to get an album full of fierce, energetic, funny and on point post-punk rock songs. 

This first track People in General features the legend Les ‘Fruitbat’ Carter from 90s grebo indie pop punks Carter USM. The song is a rant about the spiralling lunacy and bad news around human kind during this very difficult recent time. Where ultimately you realise that although people in general can be maddening and moronic, they can also be quite wonderful and we’re not all bad. 

A tale of two halves, a raucous raging rock track with shouty vocals that evaporates into a more relaxed psychedelic monologue. 

Humans after all are pretty complicated.

Everyone has done it. 

You're having a bad day...

As soon as you look at your phone you're exposed to a barrage of bad news.

You go outside and someone nearly runs you over, threatens you at a petrol pump, drops litter, lets their dog sh*t in the park and doesn't pick it up....

More and more things are winding you up over the course of the day until you finally snap.

You go out with some mates to have a few drinks in the evening and the vitriol to your fellow man comes spewing out like lava from a volcano.

Unfortunately, this new found confidence and bravado is short lived and unhelpful. 

Once you're back home later/early the next morning, you're in a more contemplative and placid mood.

Perhaps a little regretful.

You realise that you might have actually been one of those 'people' that you were railing against and your friends didn't wanna hear it.....

 

The Fades have teamed up with Les 'Fruitbat' Carter from Carter USM/Abdoujaparov to play this scenario out on new track People in General

The song is a tale of two sides. 

The raging tirade against humankind and the subsequent realisation that you are part of that kind and that people aren't actually always all that bad. 

Reflected in the song; raucous rock riffs and shouty vocals start off to then dissipate into a more reflective and calm outro.

 

We all get a little bit p*ssed off sometimes and luckily.... hopefully, we can tolerate and understand that in each other.


People in General is the first single from the forthcoming new Fades album to be released mid 2022.

Where Have You Gone is the latest single from Mr Bruce. He wrote the lyrics to this song in the wake of the unexpected death of Tim Cole (aka Chucks), his bandmate with whom he shared a very successful career in The Correspondents for more than 13 years. The song perfectly represents all the desperation, turmoil and rage of losing someone too soon.

Producer Angus Kemp has created an intensely beautiful and densely layered piece of dance music. Swirling sirens and cascading synth melodies give the track real urgency above a pounding bassline. The drum pattern is partly constructed from retuned recordings of people banging pans for the NHS during lockdown which was created by Boss Lids Records collaborator DOL who co-produced the early demos of the track.

The track is accompanied by a music video of Mr Bruce performing the song at Chucks’ memorial show in front of a sold out audience at London’s Islington Assembly Hall. The classic live format video is subverted when the camera rises up and out of the venue ascending into a London skyline.
