Dearest Friend is about my best friend Mark, who passed away a few years ago in a car accident. We played together in a rockband for many years. Mark, a huge reggae fan, often tried to get a reggae song onto our setlist, but I always blocked it. "I’m a rocker, not a rasta."
To make it up to Mark—just this once—I wrote and recorded a reggae song, together with several reggae musicians. "My friend who lives next to Jah, I play this reggae for ya!"
