The Icarus Descent - A Nameless Impression, A Brutal Discretion

This is actually an old one that I never put the polish on. I'd like to redo it I think; I think it'll be worth the effort. If anybody is interested in the story that is being read under the soundscape, I'd be glad to provide it.

The Icarus Descent - Deprivation

This was an Outtake from the 'No Fresh Cut Flowers' sessions. Nothing wrong with the tune, we simply ran out of time on the cd and couldn't fit another song. And considering I had already written (or co-written) 3 other songs on the soundtrack, it was reasonable for the 4th tune to go. This was created with Renoise.

Just a little something i pieced together in Renoise. Made out of some sounds sampled from an original patch in PureData.

Reuptake

I took a loop from the source and loaded it into renoise. From there I just built several new layers of instrumentation including a simple piano, a droning bass, more somewhat complimentary drums, and a sitar. I looped these all and loaded them back up against the source and faded them in at different points to make it build slowly but continuously.

The Icarus Descent - Beauty in the Beast (demo)

I took all three of the source materials and tracked them over each other, then timstretched them to around 10 times their original length. I tried out a few combinations of dynamics processing and effects until I settled on one that added just the right amount of feedback and filtering. I then layered in some loops I worked up in renoise with snippets of the sources until I had a solid low end, and an interesting 'almost but not quite glitchy' loop over that. As a final set of layers, I took the third source and ran an effected version, and a dry version, both at speed, side by side, running backward and forwrd until the end of the piece. My initial intenions were of course to mask and manipulate all recognizable signs of any ot the sources, but I enjoyed that last one so much, that I left just enough of its essence trickling throughout to potentially be able to identify it if you're already familar with it. 



This Disquiet Junto project was done as a celebration of the efforts of the Endless Ascent netlabel, and to support its employment of licenses that allow for derivative works. These Junto netlabel remix projects are intended to promote reworking as itself a means of music distribution. This track is comprised of three pieces of music, all originally released on Endless Ascent: “Materia Lucida,” the title track of a release by Kirill Platonkin and Jarguna, “With a Wimper” off Exuviae’s album The Sum of Zero, and “02″ off Illuminoscillate’s album Solar Wave Phase. The Highest Point of Loss [disquiet0058-endlesscommons}

I recently did a 'remix' of sorts for Schemawound's 'Body Movements' album. When I sent him this version he already had received 13 other mixes and was already trying to trim some time via long fade ins/outs etc, so to help him out, I retooled my version down to about 4.40. However I still prefer this longer version so I decided to present it here. Enjoy.

For this piece all previous Dystimbria releases were utilized in their entirety. I timestretched them all to an equal length of about 30 minutes without preserving pitch. I then rendered this to a backtrack which was duplicated, each running different effects, EQ, etc. I took this process of sampling previous releases one step further and recycled some of my own previous work in the form of some renoise loops, piano, and synths from some live improv sessions. These are from both released and as of yet unreleased material, and were destroyed/repurposed in various ways until they were all but unrecognizable.

Forsaken Ghosts [DYS017 Dystimbria.cc]

For my sine piece, I decided to make a pseudo-sequel to an all sine piece I did last year. It was mostly very clean, smoother tones, no distortion, etc. So for this one I decided to take it the opposite route. Once I'd introduced my 3 tones and let them have their 5 seconds each, I began to introduce distortion and glitching. Each tone was on a separate channel, and most of the effects were put directly into the master channel. At a certain point, I used a copy of the original tone in short bursts to create an almost rhythm; this was the only channel to be processed prior to reaching the master effect chain. By the end of the piece all of the original tones were stripped away leaving that glitched pseudo-rhythm.
