What and who is A Darker Wave?
We are a duo (jacki-e & p-mac) who present A Darker Wave every week only on NLive Radio, Circl8 Radio, Echo Radio & Chill Lover Radio. We put the show together in our home studio. The show is streamed worldwide on the internet. Each show is posted on our Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Hearthis.at, Podbean and You Tube pages once it has been streamed and presents the best in new techno releases.
We also play gigs as A Darker Wave and we have played at events in Germany and all over the UK.
The music we play is techno, tech house, deep house and anything else we like enough to include in the show.
Each show is 2 hours long. In the first hour we go into the mix with our featured EP of the week and the best of the new releases.
In the second hour we invite new and upcoming DJs to come onto the show and do a guest mix.

Why are you called A Darker Wave?
Dark Wave was first used in the 1980s to describe a dark and melancholy variant of new wave and post-punk music and was first applied to UK musicians such as Bauhaus, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode and Anne Clark. It was also used to describe artists who combined music with performance art, such as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, who challenged and explored the darker and obsessive sides of the human condition.

A lot of techno takes its spirit and ethos from this music, Listen to Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire and you can hear the industrial sounds which are a staple of techno music today.

Techno is the outsider of electronic dance music, the punk of today's modern music scene. As Dave Clarke said in an interview with Mixmag, " Techno is edgy. Techno will challenge you......it's the real dark art."

Our radio show, in presenting the best in underground techno and deep house music, and in giving an opportunity for new, up and coming DJ's and producers, is providing an outlet for new techno, which is best described as being the new wave of modern dance music.

Not just a new wave, but with it's incessant bass rumblings, synthesiser drones, pounding drums, melodic top notes and eerie, distorted vocal samples, techno, in all its forms, is a backdrop to and a critique of our post-industrial, consumerist society, one in which our actions are observed 24/7, our democratic freedoms are threatened by our very own governments and our rights to do, think and act as we please are under ever increasing scrutiny. Techno really is A Darker Wave.

When we were listening to music in the 60’s and 70’s, before the electronic tentacles of technology infiltrated the world, we often thought, whilst listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Hawkwind, Captain Beefhart, New York Dolls and Roxy Music, where would music go to in the future? It could never be what was being portrayed in the science fiction movies of the time. Now we know. It can be anything. When we have a recording studio in our own home which is more powerful and versatile than anything available back then, we now know music can be anything and go anywhere. It is only the spark of our imaginations, or lack of it, that holds us back. On our laptop computers we have the capabilities that many artists back then would have given their right arms for. It’s for the uniqueness of the artist to express themselves to be able to stand out from the deluge of music available. Finding those gems is the modern day equivalent of crate digging and when you do, it makes it all worthwhile. Long live music!!!!

Aure-Lion is an emerging artist known for a captivating fusion of world vibrations that blend Reggae, Funk, Jazz, Soul, Blues, Indie, Pop, and French influences. Since picking up music at the age of 16, Aure-Lion has drawn inspiration from childhood favorites to craft heartfelt tracks that resonate with themes of love and revolution. Who'd a Thunk? is a non-traditional experiment in the creation of music, sound, and the expansion of 'The Funk'. Focusing more on ideas made from passion of sound, rhythm, and feeling, rather than following modern music formula and producing for-profit works, Who'd a Thunk? creates soundscapes aimed to inspire further thought and creation based on an amalgamation of everything listened to, enjoyed, studied, or experienced, and the celebration of our significant circumstances of existing on a planet within an atmosphere where sound is even possible. As for me, I'm Sean Penalber. Very likely the only one so far. I set off back in 2012 with the goal to investigate the meanings of existence and share any success I found with the universe. That's when I began Drawbook.net and collecting art, information, and experience from the people i met along the way. A few years later, I started @theartofceilings after opening snapchat while my phone was on a table and the camera was pointed straight up at the ceiling and I thought, "hey, that's a cool shot," and I've kept it up since. Couple years later, while visiting a friend in Georgia, he taught me a few chords on the ukulele (I trained in school as a percussionist) and I became obsessed and finally started creating and recording music, something I had always wanted to do! Then, in 2017, I picked up the bass I had owned and hardly played since high school and started Who'd a Thunk?! Since then, I've transitioned over to the keyboard/synthesizer as playing stringed instruments really hurts my hands and fingers. The goal is to create passionate music, pioneer new sounds and genres, and inspire others to do the same! I create music and art to inspire, question, and invoke reality and surreality. I have studied and performed over seven years of Improv and have been an official player at ComedySportz Houston since 2018! I also dabble in performance art so catch me while you can. Thinking about running for president 2028+ after I meet the age requirement of 35, but who knows what'll happen in that time

Noel is a writer of songs and stories rather than a musical performer. His songs have been described as reflective as they are motivated by the struggles, celebrations and tensions of everyday life. His musical stories typically address issues as diverse as cancer and homelessness, addictions, love, loss and troubled relationships. These songs are led by the lyrics and are a mix of folk, country and blues.
Inspired by a diverse range of music from Leonard Cohen to Jason Isbell, Noel's songs took years to find their voice.Noel was born in Ireland and currently lives there but spent many years living and working in Africa. Much of his inspiration has been drawn from his own life experiences including his more recent journey with cancer. ‘Stars in Heaven’ is one of a number of songs dealing with cancer.  This particular song was chosen by Music Beats Cancer after submissions by over 800 other artists.
Noel says “ I really hope that the songs can reach a much bigger audience. I also hope that the songs can help, even in some small way, in connecting with people and in raising awareness and support for the issues they address."
