Taken from an obscure documentary on Minnie (I can't remember her last name), another native Kentuckian who created her own music her way. I have an affinity for any DIY artist, no matter what music they come up with. Minnie touched me with her kind voice and enthusiasm for her "gourd band." Minnie grew gourds, hollowed them out, and dried them. She then turned them into bizarre characters who played music in "the band." I'm pretty sure Minnie and her husband created the music that accompanied the gourd band as they played. Or, did Minnie and her husband and family play the gourds as instruments? My memory is hazy on this detail, but I'm wishing the characters played small reproduction instruments. The title may be  "Minnie's Gourd Band" and it's probably online, but I want to keep the mystery alive. I only wish I'd sampled more of her sweet voice. She lived about 50 miles from me, and oh how I wish I could go back in time and meet and record her sweet voice and absolutely charming personality. And that lady could really grow a gourd.
