This song is about being in an over demanding relationship (several actually) and finally gaining the courage to walk away. In the past, I've felt the need to be my partners "perfect person", always putting their needs above my own. This has only led to my own suffering and eventual resentment of the other person. This dynamic can occur in any type of relationship, romantic, plutonic, even family. It takes a lot of healing and acceptance to arrive at a place in which you can truly walk away or at least confidently set your own firm healthy boundaries. It is a long, constant, and often ungraceful process to reach a point in one's life where you can truly recognize the ineffable value of yourself and your energy. It's not easy and I often find myself taking several steps backwards before moving forward. They say time heals all, but really it's time and A LOT of intentional healing work that heals. You should read All About Love by bell hooks. For decades she's provided us with invaluable wisdom about healing through our traumas as well as a ton of other incredible works(you can buy it at @tiachuchas). Anyways, I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do. Now is the time to heal, live with compassion and empathy and also; recognize the TRUE value of yourself, then you can begin to recognize it in others. We're all perfectly imperfect people but still capable of anything. Power to the youth. Now is our time to create the world WE want to live in.
