Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dj Aakmael has been releasing a steady stream of quality deep house over the last decade. Fusing jazzy samples with lush strings, woozy textures, sublime keys and a frequent sense of melancholy, his sumptuous cuts have recently found their way to labels like Freerange Recordings, Release Sustain, Kolour LTD and Church. His destiny sounded pretty inevitable, born to a trombonist father, singer mother and with a composer and music teacher for an uncle, with a vast library of records at his disposal growing up. His expert sampling and affection for sounds from the past are clear evidence of this, and make for some seriously musical house grooves.

*How would you describe your sound?* 

Deep, raw, nostalgic with a jazz appeal.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* 

Ups and downs in life, culture. As far as who, there are so many artists/groups that I listen to including but not limited to: The Art of Noise, anything from the classical music Romantic period, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, The Sylvers, Antonio Carlos Jobim, The 5th Dimension and so on, many, many more. I get influenced by old music, nostalgia, history.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* 

This mix contains a selection of my tracks ranging from deep to more mellow, reflecting somewhat on the range of my ideas. When I listened back to it, to me it felt refreshing because 1) I never really play my tracks out after I produce, 2) It gave me a sense of what others may feel when they hear these songs compiled together, 3) The back and forth between the deep and the jazz gave it a feeling that I haven't felt in a long time. A mix with rare tracks and dynamic range. I could have gone on but wanted to keep it as close to an hour as possible. I may need to create a Part 2!

Jesse Alonzo Davis aka Alonzo Savoy has had the opportunity to release records on Revival Recordings, Native Soul Recordings and his own imprint (now defunct) Bridge Music.  
Jesse's talents have led him to accompany Chez Damier, Demarkus Lewis, Micheal Zucker on the quality labels mentioned above.

Most recently Jesse has started the FairTrade project with his partner Shawn Jackson.  This project brings years of experience to labels and dancefloors alike.  Be on the look out for FairTrade in 2015!
