We stepped out of the blue car, me in a dark suit, and my sister and mother both wearing black dresses. Chorale binders in hand, we walked up to the towering auditorium. Tonight, we would be singing our hearts out with chorale groups from all over town. As I gazed up the building's red brick side, I heard a piano in my head. It was playing the beginning of this song.

He stared out the viewport. Out there, beyond the starport entrance, three jumps out, were needed answers. Undiscovered weaknesses. Perhaps, even, the end of the Thargoid raids. He had to go, with or without the Council's blessing.

Starport

The pellet stove is the closest thing you can get to a fireplace without rebuilding your house from scratch. Pellets are poured in, the temperature dial is turned up, the flame flickers, and the heat wafts out. It's a comfortably magical experience.
