The new duo The Jeffrey, hailing from Amsterdam, NL, creates a daring mix of Alternative Rock, Indie and Garage music. If you listen to the self-titled, self-released debut EP you’ll directly get blown away by the tight, catchy and original sound, songs and songwriting. How they do this you ask? Well, they have a drummer who manages to provide the lead-vocals in a strangely timed fashion and a bassist who -solely on vintage Acoustic and London City amps- combines raw riffs with catchy melodies, effects pedals and a signature sound.
Besides the familiar and identifiable sound, the band looks stylish doing so in their 3-piece suits, Winklepickers and fancy hair-do’s. Musical inspiration is taken from bands such as Foo Fighters and Death From Above 1979 but also from musicians in the likes of Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead) and Kurt Cobain (Nirvana).
The band originally formed back in 2012 as a four-piece Alternative/Indie band but broke up in 2013 after having played just a few shows. Ruben Goedewaagen (drums, vocals) and Stein van den Akker (bass, vocals) decided -some 3 years later- it was time to re-invent the music created by the band and turn it into an Alternative/Indie/Garage duo with just drums and a bassguitar.
After some time spent creating the right sound, atmosphere and the band’s image, they entered the studio halfway through ’17 to record the Self-Titled debut EP in cooperation with producers Nick Ribbens (INSTATIC, APRIL) and Martijn Bressers (Emil Landman). The release (tour) is scheduled for early ’18 starting with a couple of singles followed up with the EP itself.
During the writing process, the band released an early-demo version of the upcoming single ‘Waiting For Your Smile’ at the end of ’16 through Soundcloud. The main purpose was to get feedback from the audience. However, this release was quickly picked-up by the American radio station KXRL Radio Los Angeles which put the song on their radio-playlist and -not much later- on a ‘Upcoming Artists’ playlist.
