Hiroki Yamasaki (running an absolutely brilliant Ukiuki Atama label) proves once again that he’s the master of ambiguous soundscapes always being soft and sharp / calming and unsettling / new age and post-internet / cute and spooky / ₍՞◌′ᵕ‵ू◌₎♡ and (･:ﾟдﾟ:･) at the same time.

The 38th release of katharsis and our final release of 2023 is the prodigious compilation "Embracing Darkness, Absorbing Light" featuring a vast array of artist beloved by the label. Throughout the grandiose line-up of the 36 tracks, the listener is absorbed by various differing interpretations of the theme outlined in the title of the album. Some of the invited artist went full into introverted progressions and meditative sounds, while others focused on aggressive rhythms or anthemic melodies. But even though the styles and techniques of the songs differ from each other, the artists seem to have some commonality in their sonic palettes that binds it all together in a mutual love for music as a healing force of nature <3

DnBad Trip - ETHNOSPHERE VOL. 1 blends drum and bass with abstract choral soundscapes shaped by imagined vocal traditions and speculative harmonic worlds.

No authentic folk melodies or cultural materials are used. Instead, each track transforms the emotional character of archetypal vocal styles into a new invented language and a unique sonic identity - choirs from places that have never existed.

All lyrics are written in fictional phonetics inspired by human speech, designed solely to function as musical instruments. This album is not a reconstruction, but an interpretation: a creative exploration of what vocal music could have been in parallel worlds.

Across eight tracks, the voices merge with liquid, rolling, halftime and deep atmospheric drum and bass structures, forming a hybrid sound where rhythm and resonance become one continuous pulse.

DnBad Trip - ETHNOSPHERE VOL. 1 is a journey through alternative choral realities - ancient, futuristic, and entirely imagined.
