When I got the email from Bubbles & Bass inviting me to perform this year I was so stunned and excited that teared up a little bit!  Performing here was something I have thought about since I first came to Burning Man 5 years ago.

I had the great honor and privilege of playing at Sunrise for the opening party!  We showed up at about 5:45 for my 6am set and no one was there yet.  But shortly thereafter, Russ, my "party manager" (love this) popped out and said he was there to make sure I had everything I needed and offered me coffee (great hospitality guys!).

I was so excited that we fired up the system a bit early.  I was planning to play uptempo, but the sun was just about to rise and I decided to open with a few emotionally soaring melodic tracks.  As soon as the first track started, beautiful people started appearing out of the desert like a mirage.   It was one of the most unique sets I played all week, journeying through melodic house, hip & afre.

Thank you so much to the crew at Bubbles & Bass doing what you do and inviting me to be a part of it - it was truly one of the highlights of my burn!

Starlight Thursdays Episode 234 welcome Dojous to the series with his live recording form Burning Man 2024 at camp Funky Town. 

How long have you been DJing? About 2 years.

Why did you get into it? Was always a behind the scenes guy and so many respected friends are so darn good at it I finally had to give it a try.

What events have you played? This year at the Burn was my first event I officially had a set at. I usually hop on with friends at Funk Your Burn or other house parties in Helena and Missoula to get some reps. This is the first time I actually curated a set from scratch and put it all together and played it etc. 

Where do you live (generally)? Bozeman, MT

Where are you from originally? Los Angeles, CA

What inspires you to DJ? The desire to have more things in common with my friends. The challenge of learning something new and difficult and so rewarding. The love and importance of live music at parties with my friends

What inspires you about electronic music culture? Creating platforms for other artists to grow as well as supporting my friends who are artists. 

What genres are in your mix? Ambient, Indie-Dance, Deep House, Electronica, Melodic House & Techno, Downtempo

Can you tell us a little bit about this mix?  Wanted to really play some songs and styles I enjoy that would go well with the chill vibes of Monday night at Burning Man. Lower bpm, more ethereal and dreamy, almost emo electronica to let everyones ears rest up for the sonic onslaught that they were about to endure…Wasn’t expecting a party or crowd so went with some more downtempo music to ease everyone into the week and play some stuff I rarely hear at FunkyTown. After a hellacious build was also perfect for the mood of most of our campers as we were all already tired from days of building and camping out in the desert. 

Huge thanks to BK for actually recording this set. Had no idea it would be recorded and it's been one of the best gifts to actually listen to it back again. I was so tired the night I played it I barely even remember the experience but this really helps!
