the next entry in our guest mix series comes directly from the club. we’re excited to share a live recording of [@edenbekele]’s set from CONCIERGE.003 at Market Hotel

the sonics give an accurate portrayal of asses shakin and walls quakin as she set the pace for HiTech. her infectious energy moved beyond the room, even reaching passengers on the nearby Myrtle–Broadway platform, who could be seen grooving along through the venue’s iconic stage window. as expected, EDEN brought her signature sound, giving popular tracks the club treatment, including baile cuts of Cardi B, UKG flips of Destiny’s Child, and thundering DJ Tameil edits

the mix itself is a patterned representation of vibe1–the vocal realm of RR, reminiscent of traditional hip-hop/rap music. on top of consistently playing gigs throughout NYC, she has her own ongoing event series called MATA. tying in her Ethiopian heritage, MATA, meaning “night” in Amharic, is a club night featuring black femme DJs with a current residency at Bossa Nova

Club Paradise, a concept by Los Angeles-based DJ and Producer @88superofficial, is the culmination of a mixture of musical styles which influenced his sound as a DJ. Heavily influenced by the hip-hop, r&b, and dancehall music of his youth, 88 infuses those genres with high energy edits, Baltimore, Jersey and Philly club breaks, Soca, Baile Funk, and other forms of international dance music he discovered while traveling abroad.

Club Paradise airs every 2nd Friday of the month on @dublab from 10pm-12am PT | 1-3am ET

This episode features a guest mix by @dj-swisha in the 2nd hour.

Philly born, Los Angeles raised, and NYC based; DJ Swisha is a member of the iconic @jukebouncewerk crew and signed to DJ A-Trak’s @foolsgoldrecs. With a myriad of self and official releases under his belt, Swisha became a household name in the US and internationally. He’s currently in Los Angeles for a few weeks, and what better platform for him to flex his sound and skill than Club Paradise. Expect 120 mins of booty bass exploring the trifecta of Baltimore, Jersey, and Philly club music; house, techno, juke, footwork, jungle, and much more. This is a show you don’t want to miss.

The Kitchen L.A.B. Research Residency primary researcher Romi Ron Morrison hosts a roundtable discussion with artist Kumi James and the collaborative duos of Mendi + Keith Obadike and Oxana Chi & Layla Zami that will explore Morrison’s research on the graphic scores and personal life of Julius Eastman.

To culminate their residency with The Kitchen, Morrison will create a graphic score inspired by their research on Eastman’s use of graphic notation: the artist has commissioned this group of invited artists to develop a composition in response to their forthcoming score. On September 27, Morrison will host an in-person event comprising a conversation about the project with the contributing artists and a collaborative, movement-based performance by Chi with live-music by Zami.
