Across four tracks, the Danish producer unravels a dark and funky electro core, taking inspiration from the rapidly intertwining codependence between technology and society. As digital twins, metaverses or humanoid robots lodge themselves deeper into our surroundings, Ctrls unpicks the deepening complexity brought on by our pervasive digital lives.

Encouraged by Micron Audio boss Stingray to delve into the darker productions as a means of exploring a contemporary electro sound, Ctrls fixes a hypnotic heft with fresh industrial sound design, never resting as he navigates contorting track structures and twisting tones. The digital hum rages, as brain neurons fire from information overload, with a tsunami feeling and emotions in tow.

Remarkable is the combination of pounding rhythm, hauled in by a magnetic motion, with tones of digital disintegration, all flux and shift. This electro sound is a far cry from a clone of the genre's forebearers - no retro-specificity. Instead, Ctrls delivers a timely dose of accelerated culture - The Future is Now.

Our first premiere of the week comes from Ctrls on DJ Stingray’s imprint, Micron Audio. Ctrls experiments electro and bass heavy tracks on this release to great effect. The Danish producer unpicks the deepening complexity brought on by our pervasive digital lives.

The Ctrls project came to life in 2012 and the Danish artist immediately made his mark on the techno scene. His fast paced and futuristic techno based sound has now been well established with a stream of respected music on labels such as Token Records, Earwiggle, and Key Vinyl.

The Danish artist has held it down at a number of high-profile venues throughout the world, including Tresor, Fold, Berghain, Khidi, Fabric, Kit Kat, Fold, and Club Drugstore, as well as a residency at Ved Siden Af, Copenhagen’s purest electronic dance music club.

For his next release the formidable techno artist releases on DJ Stingray’s imprint Micron Audio as it opens its doors to an external artist for the first time. ‘Subroutines’ is a dark and heavy bass exploration, as Ctrls experiments with sub heavy drums and glitchy synths. Alarming drones play off inky reverb swells. Ctrls captures a cataclysmic atmosphere with profound groove.

Since being made aware of @Catartsis and Ōtone's @ygam imprint a few years back, we've been dipping into their catalogue every time we've felt the desire to listen to intelligent techno and experimental music. After something of a hiatus over the pandemic, the label is back in business, with Catartsis helming a solo EP entitled 'Acier Leste'.

Senda Fatal es el pseudónimo tras el que se esconde el periodista musical y DJ Rodrigo Suárez. Su labor comunicativa se ha centrado especialmente en Radio 3, donde ha dirigido y presentado espacios en torno a la música electrónica y el baile (como TransMúsica Express o Materia Líquida) y trabajado en programas como Siglo 21 y Hoy Empieza Todo entre otros. También es uno de los activos detrás de algunos de los eventos más especiales de la península como son el festival ITHAKA o el íntimo Jaleo Real.

Como DJ sus sesiones exploran una gran variedad de ritmos y géneros siempre con un nexo claro, la búsqueda constante de la luz y la conexión con las emociones tanto propias como colectivas.

Para esta ocasión ha preparado una sesión de una hora plagada de melodías, sudor y ritmos rotos, una mezcla entre registros agresivos y frecuencias melosas y seductoras con las que explorar el espacio comprendido entre las ganas de dar abrazos y las de reventar el suelo a fuerza de baile.

Senda Fatal is the pseudonym behind which the music journalist and DJ Rodrigo Suárez hides. His communicative work has been focused especially on Radio 3, where he has directed and presented spaces around electronic music and dance (such as TransMúsica Express or Materia Líquida) and worked on programs like Siglo 21 and Hoy empieza todo among others. It is also one of the assets behind some of the most special events on the peninsule, for example the ITHAKA festival or the intimate Jaleo Real. 

As a DJ his sessions explore a wide variety of rhythms and genres always with a clear nexus, the constant search for light and the connection with both his own and collective emotions.

For this occasion he has prepared a one-hour session full of melodies, sweat and broken rhythms, a mixture between aggressive registers and mellow and seductive frequencies with which to explore the space between the desire to give hugs and those to burst the ground by force of dancing.

Berlin-based label Burial Soil proudly presents a collaborative electro album initiated by CYRK. 

For their album „Freundschaft“ CYRK has collaborated with Steffi, Anthony Rother, Ravn Jonassen, JakoJako, Jensen Interceptor, Alienata, Nite Fleit and David Carretta. 

Over the last few years electro has had a massive resurgence. 
Since then, a new generation of producers has taken the genre under the microscope, recombining classic tropes and influences in new ways. CYRK is among the list of artists consistently pushing all things electro to new heights with forward thinking, dancefloor shattering and bass-heavy concoctions ready to turn your favorite club dance floor into a sea of spaced-out euphoria. 

Early 2020, they decided to reach out to some of their producer friends as well as artists they’ve been admiring for years, to collaborate on tracks. As they see it, the electro scene is a very close-knit community and it felt more than appropriate to support each other this way. 
A few emails were sent, a few calls made, and a list of heavy-hitters was assembled to exchange files and jam together remotely or in-person in CYRK’s basement studio: Klakson and Dolly label owner Steffi, Anthony Rother, Burial Soil label buddy Ravn Jonassen, JakoJako, Jensen Interceptor, Alienata, Nite Fleit and French veteran David Carretta. 

BPMs are high on the eight tracks of “Freundschaft”, the end result of this collaborative process, incorporating various influences from electro-adjacent styles like italo, EBM or, unsurprisingly, techno.
