Thelonious Monk - Don't Blame Me

After the pained sorrow of its predecessor, this Song without Words is lively and energetic from the start (thanks to the key of G major - which I hear as orange), its first phrase traversing three octaves in an upwards direction. The second section in E major is somewhat slower and broader, but continues the sunny flavour and also has a sense of upward reach. Both sections return, the second theme adopting the G major flavour on its second appearance.

'Round midnight (Thelonious Monk)

It is thought that Monk originally composed the song sometime in 1940 or 1941. However, Harry Colomby claims that Monk may have written an early version around 1936 (at the age of 19) with the title "Grand Finale". "'Round Midnight" is the most-recorded jazz standard composed by a jazz musician.

Here's the recording from my senior recital for Georgia State University. Date 4/19/2013

I arranged each song. The first 7 are all the jazz standards you know and love (though hopefully don't sound EXACTLY like the ones you are familiar with). The last one is my dad's original composition that was originally for solo guitar that I had transcribed and arranged for our group.
