According to Wikipedia, Jay-Z grew up in one of the poorest housing projects in Brooklyn and Notorious B.I.G. had to deal crack cocaine to make ends meet. Eminem lived a hard knock life as a white kid in Detroit and more than half the people rapper 50 cent has known have died by the hand of a 9 millimeter. Compared to these guys, the rest of us look like tit-sucking chumps. However, not everyone has to be a Compton princess to appreciate the real, unfiltered, absolutely vulgar genre that is hip-hop music. Some of us are just middle class shits from a small town trying to make sense of our minds through a rhyme. Lazarus, aka Mr. Alexander Hollander, was born May 11th, 1986, victim to the San Fernando Valley. In a city where mediocrity is applauded and rap music is about as popular as condoms in Africa there wasn’t much room for growth. However, flash forward 20 years and Laz has slowly but surely been growing. “I don’t expect to be a millionaire, I just like performing; it’s the greatest release”, says Mr. Hollander. A hobby he picked up back in his book-holding days at Hollywood High School, Laz credits a large part of his sanity to performing. Originating from an interest in the death & glamour of New York Thug rap, Lazarus with a couple other shithead friends started “5th Element”, a wild yet non-gun toting, straight edge (kind of) group of rap Shakespeareans. In the spring of 2009, the group disbanded but Lazarus continued performing and writing music. Not long after the group split, he signed on with Broken Complex Records LLC, an independent record company that believes in helping out the middle men, the ones who aren’t filthy rich and the ones who aren’t dirt poor, just the regular folks trying to live day by day. In January 2010, Lazarus released a long anticipated downloadable EP, “I heard you like It Raw”. Since then, he’s continued to play the game and isn’t looking for a big break, but is at least trying to bust a nut on this bitch called Life.
