We expected Evan Shornstein aka Photay to come through with some eclectic selections for his Bleep exclusive mix, and he doesn’t disappoint. The prodigious musician and producer’s fascinations lie with different modes of hypnotism — from the grainy micro-ambient of On Hold to the outsider electronica of Waking Hours — and the broad spectrum of influences on this mix showcases his truly voracious tastes. The frosted glass soundscape of his tune ‘Roaming’ shares a textural quality with the cries of The Last Poets’ drum circle rally, while the low-slung reggae of Brigadier Jerry speaks to Photay’s own artistic proximity to dub-like production.

The career of musician and producer Fernando Corona aka @murcof is long-running and vastly undefinable, ranging from kosmische synthesis and dubby ambient productions to electroacoustic composition and post-rock. His latest double album The Alias Sessions is a breathtaking record of crushingly beautiful compositions from an artist operating with aspirational vision. It’s a no-brainer then that his exclusive Bleep mix is just as genre-agnostic, acting as a whistle-stop tour of his nearest and dearest (for now, at least). We begin with goth-twinged dream pop from This Mortal Coil, the darkest corners of which bleed into the cinematic electronica of Cyan as we later jump continents with an abundance of global pop -- German synth chart-toppers and Japanese torch songs included.

London based producer JD. Reid steps up to the platter with a bevy of beauties for his Terrorhythm debut, in the shape of the Maneki Neko E.P.

This 5 track E.P. coolly connects the listener with JD's ear for soulful sonics, tinged with sub rumbling bass.

Having been hotly tipped as one to watch at the tail end of last year after the success of "88", and his productions for UK Hip Hop stars Piff Gang and ItsNate, there was always a high expectation of something really special to come in 2014. Opening up with "Ralph", it's evident that that special something has announced itself. Joining the dots between grime and instrumental hip hop, with a nod to the LA beats movement, the E.P. continues to dazzle throughout it's journey.

In a time when it's becoming difficult to discover truly unique music, JD. Reid delivers on all fronts. Don't sleep on this one!

K-LONE’s Cape Cira LP is one of the prettiest records you’ll hear all year in techno or any other genre. The Wisdom Teeth boss created a verdant sonic world on that album, one where rippling beats came drenched in sun-dappled atmospheres and melodies that evoked palm trees swaying in a breeze. On this exclusive mix, @k-lone93 lets us in on some of the music that inspired the record. The mix’s first half largely eschews dancefloor pulses in favour of dreamy flushes of sound - while there are some gently danceable numbers in here from the likes of DJ Python and Duckett, the entries around them emphasise new-age-inspired textures in a manner that draws a clear line to Cape Cira. We then enter a territory of coy techno and micro-house throbs, one where Jan Jelinek’s ‘Rock In The Video Age’ sets the tone, before blissing out with pure ambiences at the mix’s close.

Forest Drive West goes deep on this contribution to Bleep’s mix series. While the blends here may move through a variety of tempos, this is an hour of music schooled in dub science and cloaked in thick, trippy textures. The first third of the mix sees Forest Drive West running at dancehall tempo, delivering ultra-heavy dubwise riddims which will delight anyone who’s dug the techno dancehall sound of labels like Gobstopper and Livity Sound in recent years. The mid-section takes the listener even deeper, dubbing out in the African Head Charge style, before Forest Drive West emerges with some thrilling experimental jungle in the mix’s second half.

Kutmah turns in a mind-blowing, horizon-expanding set of anti- sonics and punk vitality on his Bleep mix. The multi talented producer/DJ delivers an endlessly bracing range of music across ninety minutes here. The common threads that run through these selections are more aesthetic than sonic - this is a collection of scuzzy, confrontational, thrilling music. Genre-wise, Kutmah takes in everything from minimal-wave to industrial music to futurist Batida to Sinead O’Connor here. Unwound, Cabaret Voltaire, The Bug and Hudson Mohawke are just a handful of the other artists who feature in this frankly incredible mix.

Pole’s Stefan Betke journeys through dub-techno, ambient and an array of spiritual music styles on his wide-ranging Bleep mix. Those aforementioned genres have always been a clear influence on Pole’s deep, weighty electronic compositions, and as such it’s no surprise to find several Pole originals among the track listing here - indeed, Betke sets the tone by beginning with Pole’s grainy ambient-techno track ‘Modul’. With these Pole productions anchoring the blends we are then free to journey off into passages of mind-expanding spirituality - for instance in the mid-section, which features tracks from Lou Reed/John Cale and Sun Ra, or the contemplative roots reggae tunes which are included in the mix’s home straight.

On this Blah Records label mix, DJ/producer SUMGii takes the listener on a deep dive into the catalogue of the beloved alternative hip-hop imprint. Pye Corner Audio takes us to the pleasure zone on his second Bleep mix. These blends see low-slung techno grooves, new-wave electronics and psychedelic rhythm tracks broken up by jaunts into more weightless territories. Beginning with The Human League’s still-seminal ‘Being Boiled’, Pye Corner Audio subsequently uses tracks by artists such as Julianna Barwick and Daniel Avery & Alessandro Cortini as palette cleansers between rollers from Talaboman, Actress and the like. Throw in a smattering of Pye Corner Audio’s own remixes, a recent remix of GLOK by the legend Andrew Weatherall and an exclusive, previously-unheard track, and it all adds up to an immensely pleasing hour of music.
