Thelma Cheechoo is a singer/songwriter born and raised on a small remote island on the southern tip of James Bay called Moose Factory, Ontario Canada.  Thelma's family lived on Kesagami Lake where they had no running water, no electricity and they lived off the land.  Thelma's says "music was always playing in our home".  Thelma's Sophomore album "STAY" was recorded at Stagg Street Studios in Los Angeles, California in 2014.  Thelma was joined in the studio by a stellar group of musicians including Kenny Aronoff, Jessy Greene, Chris Joyer, Chris Chaney and Merritt Lear.  Her album was produced by Bill Bell.  STAY charted on college radio (earshot) at #4 and the Indigenous Music Charts at # 9.  Her album was nominated for an Indigenous Music Award for "Best Country Album".   Thelma has shared the stage with amazing artists including Blue Rodeo, Jimmy Rankin, Carroll Baker, Joanne Shenandoah and many others.  Thelma recently returned from a trip to the UK where she performed some shows and was a guest lecturer at Aberdeen University in Scotland.  Thelma also performed in Perth, Australia with a project she founded called the Youth Music Mentorship Project.  An music education empowerment program for young people.
