ELLIE MAKES MUSIC songs are coming of age stories from the front-line of teenage life.   On her new download, ‘I Pray’ she sings about loneliness and missing somebody very special.  Her previous releases have dealt with overcoming anxiety and domestic abuse, weighty subjects indeed for someone who has only just turned 20.  Under her real name Cardiff based Ellie James has enrolled at Bath Spa University for full time studies in Commercial music.  

With influences ranging from Joni Mitchell, Ellie Goulding, Nick Mulvey to Lucy Rose, ELLIE MAKES MUSIC coaxes the singer songwriter genre towards something new, a place of hope: somewhere honest and sincere.   Last autumn ELLIE played HUW STEPHEN’S SWN Festival, WOMEX Fringe and OXJAM Bath, this year she plays Cardiff LIbrary on April 26th and Devauden Festival on May 16th

With World Cup Mania at a fever pitch it’s time to shove that ‘irritating samba’ roughly into touch, take the spirit of New Order and infuse some epic melodrama , as Welsh Indie-pop outfit John MOuse return with their new single, ‘I Was A Goalkeeper’.   With guitar hooks off a Goals Of The Season Montage and a tune reminiscent of The Banana Splits, this sparky duet between John and Gareth David (lead singer from Los Campesinos) is an anthem to childhood and bonding power of soccer. 

‘I Was A Goalkeeper’ is the first single from John MOuse’s forthcoming 4th album - The Death Of John MOuse available as a download on 7th July via Crocfingers ahead of the album on 14th July.  ‘Goalkeeper’  marks John’s first new material since 2010’s acclaimed Humber Dogger Forties.   John MOuse was one of the first acts to be announced to play GreenMan 2014 Festival alongside BEIRUT, Neutral Milk Hotel and First Aid Kit.  ‘I Was A Goalkeeper’ is a three minute pop song about growing up, lost relationships and a recurring theme in John MOuse’s output, being short.  Imagine if The Smiths had sung ‘Three Lions’, or Oasis had done, ‘World In Motion’, welcome to your new favourite terrace anthem! ‘I Was A Goalkeeper’! 

John MOuse has variously described as ‘A Welsh Beck, ‘Kurt Wagner with issues’ or ‘A Less Funny Half Man Half Biscuit’. Under his previous incarnation JT Mouse he worked with Sweet Baboo (aka Steven Black) and recorded sessions for BBC 6 Music, while in 2010 he scored as cult hit with a song about a gay romance, with a duet with daytime BBC daytime presenter Steve Jones. HAWK release their first new material of 2015 in the form of the stunning new 5 track EP “Clock Hands” released on Veta Records on 23rd Feb 2015.   Lead track “Clock Hands” builds on the same unique sonic template as its predecessor ‘Hush’ (also included as T4) showcasing the enthralling voice of lead singer Julie Hawk amidst epic alt noir shades creating a sound that has been called the lucid dream between post rock and indie.  

Based in London, Julie, Matt, Chris, and Sam hail from various corners of the UK and Ireland.  Irish-born lead singer Julie Hawk initially embarked a solo folk career, began collaborating with Matt Harris in 2012.  Their first release a stripped back cover of “This Charming Man” was played on BBC 6 Music by Steve Lamacq with early support also coming from Tom Robinson. The fledgling duo then joined Sam and Chris to form HAWK, adding a new abrasive edge to their sound while retaining the delicacy of their acoustic roots.   HAWK ended their biggest year to date with December 2014 shows at Other Voices, Dingle, Ireland and a headlining show for A Badge Of Friendship in London.

AMPLIFIER release their new single ‘Black Rainbow’ taken from their Mystoria LP via Superball Music on 11th May 2015. 

AMPLIFIER have for a long time been one of the best kept secrets in British alternative music.  Embraced since their inception by genre press new single ‘Black Rainbow’ sees band focus their sound and display their influences proudly pummelling a taut riff driven hook monster into a three minute mainstream blast of sound reminiscent of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney and Nirvana. 

Formed in Manchester in 2003 AMPLIFIER often surprise reviewers with their hidden longevity and dexterity, double album Octopus drew praise from the BBC, whilst 5th Album Mystoria was a departure for the band - with singer and lyricist Sel Balamir insisting that the songs were written, rehearsed and drop dead watertight before AMPLIFIER ventured anywhere near a studio.  The results of this new work method are staggering.  Last year Amplifier released their fifth full-length album Mystoria, they are pleased to announce a UK headlining tour including a very intimate show in London at the end of March, and an appearance at Desert Fest.

‘Take Me Home’ is quantum leap forwards for the Swansea band with a sound that is unashamedly commercial.  THE MARKS CARTEL are a label’s dream, a grafting, hard working band who are not afraid to write tunes that will trouble radio.  Having supported VANT, PRETTY VICIOUS and THE HEARTS, THE MARKS CARTEL are now ready to take centre stage themselves working with a new producer on a new label.  ‘Take Me Home’ imbibes Kasabian’s throbbing bass spikes it with the middle finger attitude of Arctic Monkeys before blitzing liberally with hooks reminiscent of Royal Blood. BLUE AMBER the Cardiff hip-hop/free jazz/art-punk collective announce their new single ‘Yr Man In The Music Scene’, set for self release with digital distribution via Distrokid.  Radio Impact/Focus Date for ‘Yr Man In The Music Scene’ is slated for 1st Aug 2025. 

BLUE AMBER fuse Lynchian soundscapes, Dadaist and political lyricism with art rock, hip-hop and free jazz.  Starting as an introverted bedroom project, BLUE AMBER blossomed into a supergroup of sorts, featuring members of Cardiff’s numerous jazz, indie and psych groups. Since their inception, the band have made a name for  themselves on the Welsh live circuit with their sonically diverse offerings and songs inspired by an equally divided world, featuring two drummers, samples, saxophone and frontman Drew Noel’s satirical poetic lyricism.    

Their first release, ‘The Blue Amber’ EP was released in 2018. Since their debut they have released a further 7 singles, including the fan favourite ‘Welsh Girl’ in 2021 and their debut LP track Rockland’s Workshop in 2022 and Rockland’s Workshopped remix EP, in 2023  

With an increasing number of Welsh acts gaining critical acclaim, 2025 seems like a good time to turn the satirical microscope/microphone back to their homeland. Says singer Drew, ‘Yr Man in the Music Scene’ is a pastiche of the Welsh music scene, and indeed, the British music scene as a whole. The song satirises competition between artists in a close knit environment, makes light of personal struggles, and brags about accomplishments that aren’t really a big deal. It’s an  exaggeration of how an artist feels when they’re on top of the world, with all the narcissistic qualities that come with it.  It is the audio equivalent of “look how big my *** is”. And as for the spelling on the song the title Drew adds, ‘“Yr” was just a homage to LCD Soundsystem - e.g. Yr City Is A Sucker, and not the Welsh word for ‘The’”. 

BLUE AMBER have played both SWN and Focus Music Wales Festivals. They have also supported Getdown Services, Maruja Deadletter, Italia 90, Stay in Nothing, Rubie, Knives and Diary Diary. 

‘Yr Man In The Music Scene’ was written by Drew Noel with James Minas on engineering, mixing, mastering and production duties.  BLUE AMBER have been through several line ups but are now settled as Drew Noel (vocals and sax), Hayden Lewis (guitar), Billy Stillman (bass), Cadi Thomas (keyboard), Alex Burch and Zach Breskal (both drums and percussion).

MAGIC SEAS the Essex based indie/alternative duo are set to release their new single,  ‘Can You Hear My Dreams?’ via their own Lemonpop Recs with digital distribution by Shellshock on 17th October.  

‘Can You Hear My Dreams?’ follows the singles, ‘From This View’ and ‘The Sun Chair’ all lifted from the duo’s 3rd LP FROM THIS VIEW which was released in April.  

MAGIC SEAS hail from Chelmsford, Essex and are brothers James and John Prudence.  They make lush, resplendent indie tinged dream pop that draws on the likes of Galaxie 500, Beach House, The War On Drugs, Felt, Cocteau Twins, The Byrds, Echo And The Bunnymen and Slowdive.  On their third album, FROM THIS VIEW they explore the sense of space and wonder within their sound mixing west-coast Americana influenced acoustic guitar and harmonies with reverb drenched C86-esque 12 string guitars and driving drum machine.  Influential blog Even Butterflies Make A Sound commented, ‘From This View’s chiming guitars and washes of shimmering keyboards offer nine cuts of soaring soundscapes for the Magic Seas’ tales of solitude and sorrow.Among the highlights are the title track with its driving drumbeats. ‘Different Ways’ adds harmonica to the mix giving the song a twist of Bob Dylan’s wild mercury sound. ‘Strings And Time’ offers a more acoustic sound to the proceedings to give it a more grounded folky flavour. ‘The Happiness Key’ sails this album off into the sunset with a hypnotic motif. It brings to mind Spacemen 3 during their Perfect Prescription era or Slowdive’s first phase.’ 
FROM THIS VIEW was again recorded with RIDE frontman Mark Gardener who upon hearing the band’s first demo has since been producing them at his OX4 Sound studio in Oxford.  In autumn ‘23 James and John were invited to Nashville to play as session players at WELCOME TO 1979 AGAIN, an all analogue recording studio in an old pressing plant. 

Of the new single John says, “The imagery of the song reflects quite a few aspects of what we do musically, whilst also trying to embrace the listener. It’s exploring a realisation that you are suddenly in an incredible moment that you have been anticipating and you can share its glow with others. Meet us tonight under golden light.”  Of their evocative band name, singer James says, “The idea behind the name MAGIC SEAS was to take people to places within our music.” 
MAGIC SEAS have played tour support with the likes of REVEREND AND THE MAKERS, THE WARLOCKS, REPUBLICA, THE ASTERIOD No.4 and LEVITATION ROOM, and following on from a National Album Day endorsed Ltd 12” release they have also performed live at in store performances for HMV, Flashback Records and for the last two years played live on Record Store Day at Intense Records, Chelmsford.

Maddie Jones releases her new single ‘Could You Be My Rock And Roll’ on 19th Feb 2016 via Frenza Records. ‘Could You Be My Rock And Roll’ is the first release taken from her new Crowdfunded EP Colour Me In.  

Maddie Jones is a unique voice from the heart of the South Wales valleys.  Her music is raw mix of timeless rock and roll that fuses contemporary pop sensibilities yet draws directly from the blues and its modern descendants.  Without doubt It’s THAT voice that will knock you out - there are tinges of Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and even Bessie Smith in Maddie’s vocal timbre whilst the taught production on ‘Could You Be My Rock And Roll’ puts the listener in mind current releases from Alabama Shakes, Caro Emerald, Imelda May, KT Tunstall.  When quizzed on her own listening habits, Led Zep, Jeff Buckley, T Rex and The Black Keys add to the mix of old skool vibes new skool sound that makes Maddie such a vibrant performer.   

Maddie’s debut EP was released in 2010, in 2013 she won Cardiff’s Big Gig and was subsequently chosen to be mentored by Amy Wadge. The ACW funded her debut album Vita Brevis in 2014 the first union with Charlie Francis who not only produced the track, but plays across lead single and host EP ‘Colour Me In’.  Maddie was backing vocalist on Dan Bettridge’s ‘Third Eye Blind’ which achieved substantial BBC Radio 2 and Amazing Radio support.  New single ‘Could YOu Be My Rock And Roll’ was co-written by Matthew Evans from Welsh psych-rockers, The Keys and follows the lineage of good time rock and roll but with a modern twist.  Speaking of the song, Maddie says, ‘It’s the account of person heading out on the town, looking for their ‘rock and roll’ I wanted the listener to decide whether that is someone for the night, or for longer’.

With appearances at Glastonbury and Swn Festivals as well as support slots for Stephen Fretwell and Sweet Billy Pilgrim, 2016 promises to be thrilling year for Maddie and with ‘Push Back’ slated as second single off ‘Colour Me In’ wider and more diverse audiences are only just beginning to hear and appreciate her incredible talents.

THE ATTIX is a project formed by Chris Williams, 17 year old singer/songwriter from Crickhowell, South Wales. THE ATTIX began life as an outlet for Chris's acoustic driven pop/rock songs. Maturing over the last year at breakneck speed, THE ATTIX music fuses bittersweet melodies with driving guitars to create towering anthemic rock to inspire a new generation. Think of THE ATTIX’s sound as being the prodigal love child formed by a fleeting union of ghosts of Jeff Buckley and Kurt Cobain.  

Within seven short months THE ATTIX have caught the attention of Adam Walton, (BBC Introducing Wales), Dave Owens (Wales Online), producers Nick Brine (Ash, The Darkness, Seasick Steve) and Greg Haver (Bullet For My Valentine, Tom Jones, Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals). Chris has played The Cork Music Festival, The Green Man Festival, The Acoustic Festival of Britain and WeyFest. John Adams is set to release his new single ‘See You Again’ on 17th March via Colomen Records across all digital platforms.  

Hailing from Aberdare in the valleys of South Wales, John has spent nearly all his adult life as a songwriter playing gigs in venues across the country as well as busking on the streets of Cardiff. In a leap of faith he quit his job as a Maths teacher to perform full time. That gamble paid off spectacularly as John appeared on X Factor, making it past the auditions and into boot camp and has gone on to support acts such as Take That, Lemar, Stooshe, Luke Friend and Mike Dignam.

‘See You Again’ showcases John’s natural talent for singing, as well as being able to write contemporary pop songs. John’s goal is to to blend organic music and strong storytelling with a minimal electronic production to make a sound that is satisfyingly different from the usual guitar wielding singer/songwriter. ‘See You Again’ certainly succeeds with influences ranging across Sam Smith, Charlie Puth and James Bay, showcasing John to be one of the most exciting young voices to come out of Wales in a very long time. ‘See You Again’ was recorded at Toy Studios in Cardiff by Lee House who has produced other notable Welsh talents Cally Rhodes and HVNTER.  Also included on the promo CD and download links is John’s follow up single ‘Things That Make You Beautiful’ included here as a taster for John’s forthcoming EP. 

John funded his debut album, aptly named The Pavement is My Stage by busking. It reached No.7 in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts, scored a 5 star iTunes rating and was aired on radio across the UK.  John was awarded BBC Wales/ACW Launchpad funding following continued airplays on BBC Radio Wales.

The Velvet Hands release their new single, ‘Don’t Be Nice To Me’ for streaming and download via AWAL on 13.6.19 with  radio impact date of 26th July.  ‘Don’t Be Nice To Me’ is the first single from their highly anticipated second album.  

‘Don’t Be Nice To Me’ is the first release since the band’s debut album ‘Party’s Over’ last year.  Speaking of the songs meaning, co-writer and singer Toby Mitchell said; “Don't Be Nice To Me captures the youthful frustration of being tied down to unwanted situations such as school, a relationship or a job, and looking for any reason to escape. It highlights the joy of saying no so you can enjoy pure personal freedom.”  The band’s debut ‘Party’s Over’, was Huw Stephens BBCR1 Album Of The Week.

The Velvet Hands emerged from Cornwall’s blistering garage-rock (‘Kernow Wave’ - NME) scene. The ambitious, Stones x Strokes tinged quartet formed in 2015 at Truro College. The Velvet Hands blistering live sets, with Toby Mitchell wrestling for the mic with his counterpart Dan Able, have seen them play stand out gigs at The 100 Club and The Water Rats amongst others. ‘Don’t Be Nice To Me’ was recorded and produced by John Logan, a recent graduate of the Falmouth Music Technology course.
