ADAB is known as a black non binary trans individual who explores sound as a whole. The Pittsburgh based, Chicago born and molded, T4T LUV NRG artist has become known for melding boundaries, often sifting between crates of house, techno, bass music, jungle, broken beat and everything esoteric that exists in between. They've brought this balanced approach to their sets at esteemed parties/festivals like No Way Back, Draaimolen Festival, and Freerotation with no intent to stop anytime soon. Via their involvement with T4T LUV NRG you can often catch them flanked by dear friends behind the decks, conjuring with labelmates Kiernan Laveaux, Russell E.L. Butler (as b2b duo Boyz II Them), Bored Lord, Eris drew and Octo Octa. Equipped with this wide ranging approach and the bonds of chosen family they push against preconceived notions of the craft, continually self overcoming to bring us something with tangible intent...

"I came into doing this pride mix with the intent of displaying my own personal joy as a non binary trans person. Every song picked is one that has lifted my spirit in some shape or form and I wanted to give that to my own this pride season. Pride for someone like me is often highlighted by isolation and a lack of desirability, so this mix is a gathering of gems that have battled against those feelings. It's also a collection of tracks that I've been listening to this Pride season in particular. A time that has been elevated by newfound love and a growing sense of finally finding somewhere to belong...enjoy!"

Our next festival takeover sees another local favourite - the fun-loving Field Maneuvers - take the reins. Celebrating their 10th(!) anniversary this year, Field Maneuvers returns with their biggest line-up yet at the intimate secret Norfolk location. With a strong mixture of local legends and international talent on the bill, inviting the likes of Black Artist Database, Dialled In, Rye Wax, Kindred, Dalston Superstore and more to do stage takeovers, it's set to be a scorcher!

For the first mix in this takeover we head to NY baby with DJ Wawa! Hit Factory Records co-founder and The Lot Radio resident, DJ Wawa provides us with a live recording of a recent set from the famed Hot Mass party in Pittsburgh. Speaking about the recording, DJ Wawa says, "it was recorded with an E&S DJR 400 rotary which is where all that isolating came from. I think I used cdjs for one song. Rest are records. Hopefully the set at FM gets as freaky as this one did. felt very fun and good in the room. Some fun twists and turns :)"

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Emo & bubbly, Chinese-Mexican, cycling enthusiast, overthinker, moon in gemini.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. In literal terms, since 2017, when I started working with Beats in Space (shout out Tim!). Met some of my best friends throughout those years (RVNG crew 4e). I think a lot has changed since then (in great ways!) and I feel a deeper sense of community & belonging with each passing year. 

Zip codes aside though, music has always been where I’ve felt most at home.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. The first song I knew I needed on this mix was Cabaret Voltaire’s “Resonator,” and then it kind of morphed into a bunch of different ideas and iterations from there. The process felt trippy and somewhat contradictory. I lost the plot a few times. But that’s just how it goes sometimes when the mezzo’s kick in!!! I finally recorded this mix a week after Sustain, on a gloomy and rainy Sunday in Dev’s studio. Steph helped me master it ❤. I was still riding off that high of feeling so deeply held by my friends, feeling so rooted in this city I love so much. 

The sound on this mix is somewhat slippery and introspective. There’s a bit of nostalgia and yearning, but also optimism for the future. Overall, it’s a letter for what 2023 has been so far - connections & missed connections, ebbs & flows. What a whirlwind.
