Enigmatic Japanese producer Shinichi Atobe evokes a range of sensations in his music that few others can. Whether he's listened to in headphones on a long journey, on the sofa on a lazy Sunday, deep into an afters or during a peak time reprieve, the rich, vivid strokes of his heady work has equal power to relax, heal, move, energise, envelop and flaw. 

Another scholar of patient tension-building in electronic music, Prins Thomas included Atobe in the footnote homage of his sixth album, alongside luminaries from all sounds and ages. As a mark of how much Atobe's work has impacted on his own, Thomas has paid tribute with an hour mix.

salam ! 

i thought it important to stay true to the emotions that birthed seed. so the first one is from me 

i found this process very difficult, got stuck in the headspace of wanting to make it a good ‘mix’ but it just not working while staying true to these feelings. and i realised that it’s not meant to be make sense, feeling these emotions simultaneously is jarring, it’s abrupt highs and lows, it’s stop and start, it’s silence. cold and warm. it’s the complete disruption of flow following slight cohesion- conflicting. it’s disrupted diversions into altering soundscapes

i had a go at this a few times, and this version was my last attempt. i cried the whole way through and it was on that very spicy full moon, it’s raw- but it’s honest

Lady Blue Phoenix is an award winning burlesque and cabaret performer based in the UK. Originally from a city outside of Seattle,WA, USA they have a passion for music which they express with the music they choose for their burlesque performances. Mostly a lover of all things rock, grunge, emo, metal, etc, they've had their ears opened to the sounds of synth, house, drum and bass and even dance through their other passion, gaming. Some of these tracks come from video games either mainstream or indie, others are mixes of tracks or ones that just bring about a feeling of warmth and nostalgia. LBP is now looking at getting into DJing as they have been doing more tech and DJ based things for various shows and festivals for a few years now. For them music really speaks to their soul and is a big part of their daily life.

The Space Between Spaces with Ron Like Hell @ The Lot Radio 06-10-2025

For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride.
