A Berlin legend that needs no further introduction, his knowledge in music is academic, a walking library by all means with credentials few DJs can hold a candle to, such as having been a member of The Ennio Morricone Society (MSV - Musica Sul Velluto) - seriously... @finn_johannsen brings us a two part mix of extensive research in Hip-Hop.

In his words: 
"I do not often play hip hop in clubs, but I have been listening to it since the 80s, and collecting it too. I love all kinds of hip hop, but the particular mid 90s to early 00s sound represented in these two mixes is the one I still listen to the most. I must admit that I adopted this sound quite late, as I previously preferred those records punchy and fast enough to be danced to at clubs playing disco, and then house. When the tempo slowed down in the 90s I was initially confused, well maybe even a bit annoyed. But soon enough I adapted to it, and recognized its very own appeal. Doing these mixes has occupied my mind for a while now, but it really came back to my mind during the lockdown, when I couldn't bear to listen to club music because it was just rubbing in what was missing from my life. Sometimes then I felt moody and frustrated as well, and the vibe of this helped me along. The grit, the wit, the roughness, the immensely varied and creative ways of making beats. I must admit the main purpose of these two mixes was to include all my favourite records, so I can listen to them in a row. Of course there are hip hop DJs who do that way better than me (you will probably notice that there is not a single scratch in the whole 7+ plus hours playtime, for example), and I salute them all. But I wanted to have my own personal soundtrack for whatever purpose I felt should be accompanied by this kind of music. I tried and tested it, and I am happy how well it works in different contexts, but they are all nocturnal. This is not really jiggy, mind. But I hope you like it nonetheless. Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Professionally a DJ, music producer and night club operator. More broadly a dad, husband, brother and son.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. Almost 20 years. I landed in NY in November 2003.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. It contains tracks and songs from my main musical outlets for playing music to an audience - Planetarium, Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday. Emotionally it straddles the line between fear and hope.

Today marks what would have been the Guv'nor's 60th birthday.

As a little nod to the late great Andrew Weatherall we've re-sharing an old mix of his alongside Sean Johnston, recorded in the lead up to Electric Elephant 11 years ago, which was only previously available on Mixcloud.

This came just a year into the duo's journey as ALFOS and their now infamous project which Andrew described as “an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity”.

A solid slice of oompty boompty music to see you into the weekend. Stick it on and raise a glass to the chairman!

Ransom Note’s new label Dance Music From Planet Earth have just released ‘Richard Sen presents Dream The Dream: UK Techno, House and Breakbeat 1990-1994’. The British Indian DJ/producer/record collector is a music dance music veteran with a proper heavyweight CV, whose Zelig like history goes even further back. Speaking on his Bleep mix, Richard explains: “All the tracks that I chose for this mix are from 1988 - 1995. I tried to choose tracks that were musical, deep, druggy and still rough around the edges. This is a snapshot of the kind of music I was playing back then - a personal selection of some of my faves. I'd like to think that they all stand the test of time and I still play some of them out now.”
