This week we are fortunate enough to have a mix from the lovely Subaske. A familiar face in Sydney’s local electronic dance community, Subaske has a long history as a DJ/producer and a promoter. As one of the head honchos at the infamous Compound parties, which showcased international acts like Florian Kupfer and Jon Convex amongst an array of local Sydney talent, Subaske helped set the tone for much of our own musical education.

If you were fortunate enough to enjoy a late-night-extendo at Goodgod's backroom, then we're sure you’ll remember (or possibly not) some mind-melting good times. Whether it’s supporting the likes of Mala, Smallpeople and Even Tuell, playing at festivals across NSW, including Subsonic or waving the Eora flag with @assemblerc and @andygarveyandygarvey on @technoclubnet stream during the midst of the pandemic, Subaske’s gets it done.

This mix delivers at all ends of the spectrum, providing the catalyst we need to gear up for those long summer nights.

Our 55th Podcast guests are Dublin born & based @LongIslandSoundeire (Rob Roche & Tim Nolan) that have been honing their craft since the DJ/Producer duo’s inception in 2015. Cutting their teeth in Berlin, the pair broke through over 2019 following a release on Bobby Analog’s Body Fusion and their ‘Initial Ascent’ EP on their Signs Of Space imprint. Picking up support from Midland and Bicep, they were then invited to contribute to the ‘Feel My Bicep’ mix series.

Following the success of their second EP on SOS, ‘Broken Signals’, LIS were picked up for DJ Mag’s Fresh Kicks series and featured on Maribou State’s ‘Fabric Presents’ compilation. Picking up serious momentum over 2019, the duo booked a string of gigs and festivals across Europe, the UK and US, including AVA Festival and Griessmuehle, before coming full circle for their first Boiler Room in their hometown in February 2020.

Despite the constraints of 2020, the pair’s output of music hasn't suffered, with their most recent release gaining support from industry heavyweights including Anja Schneider, Cinthie, Tijana T, Hammer, and Skatebard, to name a few, with their debut LP released on their Signs of Space imprint in May 2022.

London-based DJ Tai Lokun is one of UK’s newest rising DJs and fresh faces on Rinse-FM. Her aim for this mix was to keep it fun and display the broad, yet connected genres she loves to play.   

She starts off the mix with uplifting classic-inspired house tracks, setting a positive and energetic tone. While floating subtly on these harmonics she twinkles the mind by blending it into deeper layers with dreamy breaks and Gqom inspired rhythms. It’s the starting point of an increased dose of energy as she injects hallucinative house while flirting with bouncing techno. She playfully twist styles, while maintaining a steady flow. Percussion, deep wobbly basslines and 90’s UK & Detroit inspired synths are the engine of her groove. But, don’t be fooled, in the final moments of the mix Tai Lokun has some gifts for you. These are for you to unwrap!

"Joe and I released music as a band for years and marketing a ‘male female duo’ was not easy. Every write up assumed I was ‘vocals’ and he did ‘everything else.’ Hilarious when you think we both play instruments, we both sing, we both produce - we both did all those things live and still I was put in this ‘singer’ box. I also think part of me hated the way ‘just singing’ (if that was even solely my role) was somehow seen as less impressive or not a ‘craft’."
