Alongside co-founding One Records, Subb-an has been producing killer dancefloor groovers for years, releasing on some of the best club focused labels around. Releases on Eastenderz, Pleasure Zone, Fuse and Crosstown Rebels have made him a name synomous with deep and minimal grooves of all shapes and sizes. Recent collaborations with Thoma Bulwer on Constant Black and Seven Hills, as well as working with our shop's own Luther Vine for a release on his 2020 Vision sublabel Fragments of Reality, have been glued to our turntables since they dropped, so when a chance came to highlight his skills on the decks we were over the moon!
 
This mix opens with lush and deep tracks, slowly building in atmosphere and energy as the mix pulses and grows into a unique blend of Minimal Tech House with shades of proggy euphoria and throbbing basslines.

For our next instalment of Trommel InSession we present a mix from somewhat of a Renaissance Man. Barcelona-based DJ, producer, label head and Subwax vinyl distribution director Baldo has many many strings to his bow. Having been presenting his musical vision firstly with Neovinyl Recordings and latterly the widely supported Physical Education Baldo has been a major part of the music industry since day one. Also, providing tracks for imprints such as Permanent Vacation, Small Hours, Running Back it is clear from this range of top labels that Baldo has many sounds in his locker.

Speaking with the Subwax boss he explains his part to play in presenting music in advance, “Running a distribution company that helps to manufacture the records gives me the privilege to have access to music months in advance before they are being released.” Baldo goes on to give us the lowdown on his mix, “In the case of this mix most of them are unreleased, and since I've been playing these tracks in my latest gigs I noticed straightaway from the crowd feedback that many of these will be future hits." Stitching together tracks from Man/ipulate, Liquid Earth, the Limousine Dream label, Fio Fa, Occcibel, Alex Kassian Baldo shows just why he is the go to selector for the best parties both home and abroad.

When you have been in the game a certain length of time milestone come around a lot and for our marquee 150th edition of our main podcast we welcome Mike Shannon. In operation since the turn of the millennium, Mike is a firm favourite in most reaches of the electronic realm. His seminal imprint Cynosure is also coming up hot on their landmark 100th release and the Canadian is nowhere near slowing down as the 85th release and his ‘Galactica’ EP is about to drop on your door step. His approach to music is all encompassing, from the way in which he crafts his music using a myriad of modular kit, to his residency at Club Der Visionaere, and of course traversing the globe lighting up dance floors where ever he goes. For some dance music fans, Hamish & Toby may be their new favourite DJs thanks to a recent US tour and excellent sets at festivals like Glastonbury, Dimensions, Houghton and Freerotation. 2022 was, after all, a breakthrough year for the UK duo. But in their own, close-knit world of Discogs fanatics and vinyl purists, Hamish Cole and Toby Wareham are admired and established names. They met while studying in Leeds, bonding over a shared love of wiggly bombs at countless clubs and hazy afterparties. They ran events (Butter Side Up, Dog Eat Dog), DJ’d tirelessly and continued to dig for obscure gems. Within a few years, they were both working full-time music jobs in London, booking Dimensions Festival (Hamish) and The Pickle Factory (Toby). (Hamish is now a director at Dimensions.) All in all, they’ve dedicated the past 15 years of their lives to dance music.

For all their behind-the-scenes work, Hamish & Toby’s true love is DJing together. They’re known for their long, expressive sets that go, in their own words, “all over the map.” Their RA Podcast, which was recorded live at Philadelphia party Subsurface in May, is a four-hour odyssey through golden-era house, tech house and UK garage. Proper party music, in other words. According to the duo, they were “fully locked in, as comfortable as we’ve ever felt DJing.” It really shows.
