Hush was written lyrically by Shawn Stepp in 2009. After a S.W.A.T. team kicked down the door of a serial rapist that lived just two doors down from Stepp. The event stuck in his head along the the idea that you never truly know your neighbor. It was brought to band members Patrick Sweeney and Gabe Woodside in 2019 shortly after forming. Then was rewritten musically to become the song as it is now.

The Damned's main riff was created by guitarist Patrick Sweeney during a practice jam. The band rolled with the jam with drummer then bassist Gabe Woodside singing improvised lyrics to the jam. After recording the practice Shawn Stepp wrote lyrics to the rhythm of Woodside's singing even keeping some of the subject matter the same. The piano by Woodside and harmonized singing by all members would not be added until a week before the studio.
