EDRENLAT: Planet of The Glacier Women / SYI KA (Invocation to The Sky) are two pieces composed entirely of Lou Barnell and Anna Homler's voices. The pair met at Heathrow airport in 2019, and have collaborated internationally ever since. Combining Lou’s granular, ghostly vocal textures and melodies and Anna’s otherworldly incantations, the pieces unearth buried languages and alternate realities. They are a sound track for an imaginary film that transports us to Edrenlat the glacier planet, populated entirely by women. Its inhabitants believe that they are children of the glacier. They are unable to die, only to journey into the ice to be reborn. They divine their destiny using a ritual called ‘Fasciomancy’. This cosmic rite invokes the fabric of the sky and stars into their skin, creating a map ingrained in their flesh from the ice.
