Driving rhythmic energy provides a club-friendly atmosphere as a narrative of musical phrases interconnect in complex musical storytelling of arpeggio, chord progression and vocal.

Shining in the spotlight, A.M.R writes a new chapter of intricate rolling rhythms and subterranean bass groove. "Let it out" inspires a rich melodic playground of keys, pads and strings that percolate gently within a beautiful new structure. A trilogy of remixes continues the saga as Australian musical engineering gifts a new narrative from the mind of Aves Volare. A plaintiff cry punctures a pulsating sonic landscape of cavernous bass sequence and pure emotion; familiar threads ripple in delayed arpeggiation while a swirling new creation invigorates.

Brilliance and warm radiates across the Massachusetts landscape; SineRider continues the saga in diaphanous glory. Elegant chord progressions and muted arpeggios mingle and entwine in a smooth and subtle narration that drifts to a point of aural convergence.

From ancient Gelderland and its city of new church, Alex O'Rion rises "Around Us". A glittering edifice with crisp percussive foundations and bassline shines with melodic intensity. Sonically shifting, motifs echo into the distance with grace and poise, pervading the senses they fill the aural space with ease.

The age of "Envy" is brought into sharp focus with metronomic rhythmic force. Hypnotic and alluring, shakers fill the air with timing and precision while rippling keys add lightness of touch soaked in reverberated reflections and exquisite melancholy. An antidote to base emotion found in pure musical formulation.

"Ukko" reigns from above, the god of the sky unleashes thunderous musical expression. Cavernous bassline patterns rumble across the lower frequencies while resonant effects shatter the sonic landscape with pulsating white-noise swells. Sunlit sonic motifs emerge from the gloom in resplendent fashion to ease the oppression from the skies.

An artist with a rich and varied background, Mark Slee returns to Proton with his debut EP in the shape of the three-track, "Veranda". Remixes come from Australian and Argentinean stars.

A self-confessed electronic music obsessive, Mark Slee has been involved in the underground dance scene for over 20 years plus over 100 episodes of his monthly "Heron Sound" Proton Radio show. DJ performances across his San Francisco home have earnt Slee an impressive fan base, backed by performances further afield in Berlin, New York and at Burning Man, while production talent has seen music signed to Seven Villas, Suprematic and Magician On Duty with notable success coming from his own Manjumasi imprint alongside Atish. Returning to Proton Music after remixes for the likes of Oliver Lieb, Navar and Rudy, the title track is a glorious combination of deep rolling groove and evolving synth lines. Building elegantly with grooved bassline, a free-flowing plucked string ripples across "Vernada" with syncopated motifs adding depth and intrigue. "Portico" continues a penchant for intricate melodic line to coruscate across the mid-range, backed by a swathe of counterpoint phrases and analogue arpeggio that engages with varying degrees of sustain and release. A deep kick and cleverly programmed percussive line add the perfect rhythmic framework. The dulcet melodies of "Tigersden" complete the triptych with legato lead combining perfectly with syncopated chords in mid and lower frequencies tied immaculately to a strong rhythmic backdrop. Evolving in effervescent fashion, Slee's impressive synth work creates a wonderful narrative thread throughout the three pieces.

Through his MUUI production moniker, Patrick Carrera is the epitome of the successful modern music producer. Able to boast a triple century of credits to his name, the Australian born artist conjures up a unique sound that has seen his name allied to a host of blue-chip imprints that include Marc Poppcke's, Crossfrontier Audio, Eelke Kleijn's Outside The Box and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat. Always at the cutting edge of the underground dance movement, a pair of Proton Music remixes in the shape of 2014's reworking of Kobana and 2019's remix of Imran Khan, now sees MUUI returning for a third outing with a cleverly interpreted remix of "Portico". Retaining the rich melodic flow of the original and familiar arpeggiated riff sat slightly further back in the mix, emotive chord progressions add depth and soul. A ticking percussive groove and heavy beat add dancefloor credentials while a subterranean bassline adds weight and counterbalance to the brighter melodies.

Juan Deminicis requires no introduction to the Proton Music faithful. An artist constantly at the vanguard of underground dance, the Argentinean is a regular across the clubs of his homeland and throughout the Buenos Aries capital. Adored by fans and peers alike his music litters a host of high-profile imprints that include Loss & Found, Plattenbank and Sudbeat. A regular on Proton since 2013, his "Behind the Sun", "Life on the Moon" and forthcoming "Synchronicity" EPs have shaped the progressive house movement with his distinctive sound. Returning after a May 2019 remix of Michael A's "Geometria", the Juan Deminicis reworking of the title track finds the familiar backdrop of Slee's "Veranda" permeating throughout the six plus minute offering. Before long, new melodies from Deminicis' fertile imagine ripple across the breakdown and into the third movement with consummate ease while a seismic kick and offbeat percussive groove provide a dynamic rhythmic anchor.

An ever-expanding sonic horizon extends across Mark Slee's "Veranda", punctuated by colourful landmarks from MUUI and Juan Deminicis.

A prestigious rise from the banks of the River Waal, Mohn's compact and global underground appeal hit yet another peak. Legato bassline powers forwards under aural atmosphere and dizzying effects as melody emerges with purpose.

Expanding from the heat of Cauca River, Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat continue their ascent to the underground dance summit through languorous bass and percussive groove. Juxtaposed melodies and sonic sirens hit the perfect balance.

Original artists Mariner and Chris Domingo both call Orlando, Florida home. Dating back to the early 90’s, they also maintain 60+ years in the music industry. Recent collabs on Laika Sounds, Colorize and Massive Harmony Records continue to mold the duo’s sound. Further cultivating it, “Fantastic Playground” oozes sunny ambiance and soulful piano chords.

From cultural centre in St. Petersburg across a thousand kilometres to a fortified citadel in Kazan, Anton Make provides a new sonic gift. Through "Ilfat", a pounding rhythmic exchange pulsates above ancient city walls. Rippling arpeggios punctuate over cross-cultural boundaries where Oriental meets Russian. Fizzing and bristling in emotive crescendo, powerful forces drive through the night.

Two-thousand miles across the "Volga", flowing melodic patterns create waves of subtle energy. Building in fizzing hi-hat power, hypnotic and cascading rhythms pour out into the Caspian Sea. Intensity builds through metronomic synth line that waxes and wanes in raw analogue synthesis.

Mathematical patterns emerge in perfect aural symmetry within "Fibonacci". Glittering percussive artefacts click and prick the sonic soundscape as musical patterns emerge through immaculate synthesised chords that shimmer in infinite delay.

Talent combined across European borders finds German duo joining forces with Mango Alley's supreme creative talent – TH;EN and Mango parade down "Narere". Rugged landscapes are represented though crisp percussive shell and dominant beats. Shakers whisper like a breeze through palm-lined streets as a sharp vocal punctures the sultry air. Atmospheric effects and bicycle bell chime create ambience in abundance as a hypnotic motif conjures up snapshots of life in the Pacific Ocean.

A cool shaker-fuelled phrase flows through the Swiss mountain air, Vanita provides a new view from "Narere". Emotive key changes swirl alongside sweeping white-noise washes, and glorious new melodies provide an anchor to refrains from the South Pacific. Sweden celebrates an influential talent, Hannes Wiehager delivers raw emotion and lush soundscapes from a tropical paradise. "Narere" finds a twin in Stockholm that blooms in verdant surrounding and blossoms in soft flowing melody and sounds that flourish. The latest release from Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes KYOTTO to the label for his debut EP. The Sri Lankan artist first appeared on the progressive music scene in 2017 with releases on Clinique Recordings, Hot Cue Music and Zephyr Music. The following two years yielded similar successes with a string of releases for Polyptych. 2020 has seen KYOTTO contribute to the the Shagara Records ‘Stelliferous’ compilation in addition to an EP for Nikko’Z’s Dopamine White. Now landing on Soundteller Records for the first time, KYOTTO presents his ‘White Lights’ EP.

Continuing to gain fans with his progressive sounds, it is the title track ‘White Lights’ which leads the release off. Anchored by a tough yet warm kick, its rhythmic core rises quickly, with layers of detailed percussion and lively rhythms filling in the framework. Placid atmospheres bring hopeful qualities while sweeping effects add an old school progressive vibe. Relying heavily on rhythm and groove, it’s tracky nature sucks you in across the first act, perfectly setting up an emotional break which spearheads a heavenly finale.

The EP’s midway point finds KYOTTO exploring more heady percussive grooves with ‘Until We Meet Again’. Its chunky foundation is rugged and well shaped, characterized by rippling contours and rolling undulation. Buoyant and powerful, it provides the perfect framework for waves of percussion, vocal gates and quirky effects to steal the air. The narrative shifts into emotive territory as the breakdown smoothly moves through tranquil overlays and gorgeous tonal themes, before smoothly segueing into a groovy final movement.

Rounding out the release are the smooth, uplifting vibes of ‘Nights in Santorini’. Punchy beats, chugging basslines and rolling percussion unite for a groovy rhythmic core. Rising atmospheres and emotive chord changes then advance the narrative, elevating mood with each successive loop, before symphonic themes and a reflective break seal it’s emotive appeal. It caps off a gorgeous EP from KYOTTO, making for a brilliant Soundteller debut and adding to Sri Lanka’s growing list of progressive music talents. Highly recommended.
