"A respected name within the progressive house fraternity, Forerunners makes a welcome return to Meanwhile with his first full release in the shape of the “Ancient Methods” EP.
 
Operating out of his Arizona home, Brenden LaBonte has consistently found himself at the forefront of a distinctive underground house sound with his Forerunners soubriquet. An advocate of the ‘quality over quantity’ maxim and a sound that is full of maturity and quality, the US artist has seen his music allied to a plethora of high-profile imprints that include Anjunadeep, Silk Music, and Black Hole Recordings.
 
Now returning to GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint after a spell-binding interpretation of Mike Isai’s “Home” in July 2021, Meanwhile’s 21st release sees Forerunners open his “Ancient Methods” EP with the mesmerising title track. Full of melodic poise and rhythmic interplay, a driving beat and tight off-beat percussion heralds a dynamic opening before a mechanic bassline and syncopated groove create the foundation for delicate motifs to lilt their way across the 8-minute track with ease. Delay-infused effects and pitched synth add to the aural atmosphere at the breakdown as a sustained pad holds sway throughout to create a subtle tension and hypnotic vibe.
 
The complex rhythmic foundation that infuses the oxymoronic “Light in the Darkness” is a powerful forerunner for the deep melodic melange to follow. As running bassline and swirling effects build, a dizzying breakdown of looped arpeggio provides sonic intrigue and bright, uplifting zenith. Exploding into the third movement, an hypnotic melody sits against oppressive bass and rhythm to create a magical track.
 
Continuing the dark rhythmic narrative of its predecessors, “Valis” provides another sonic tapestry filled with texture and innovation. Beneath a ticking percussive groove and chest-thumping kick, an effects-laden and pitched oscillator bassline reveal themselves across the 6-minute offering as a mesmerising arp creates a powerful melodic presence in the mid-range. Science-fiction inspired effects that the Future Sound of London would be proud of, infuse the breakdown as the second half drops into the huge bass-heavy underpinning once more.
 
Redolent in modern and innovative production technique and a cutting-edge sound, Forerunners brings a scintillating new approach to “Ancient Methods”."

Next on ICONYC Noir we welcome back label all-star Roberto Traista with his latest smash 'Mood'. Roberto delivers a lovely progressive and melodic techno influenced track, which is easily his best body of work to date.

The original mix features rich driving textures; as well as euphoric and moody progressive melodic techno vibes to satisfy clubbing, uplifting and feel good needs, which are the keywords for this beautiful and extraordinary release. Utilizing a hypnotizing groove as the basis of the mix underpinned by a loaded bass that gradually eases its way to the breakdown of breaks percussive elements before unleashing into a rising melodic hook intertwined with the infectious groove that fades in and out for maximum effect. A sure winner from Roberto. Essential stuff!

Greek maestro Simos Tagias delivers a gem of a remix with his dance floor-oriented rework. Simos's remix is interspersing with roomy glowing love, filtered stabs and stunning groove which beautifully leads into a drop full of tension and excitement, with the understated yet driving bassline powering the groove along. Simos manages to keep the energy up, allowing the driving melodic house feel to shine thru over the many layers and textures to create a beautiful soundscape to round off this classy underground crowd pleaser.

With 'Mood', Roberto Traista really shows that there're no boundaries, as this beautiful melodic release guides you to a dance floor heavy, melodic hug of a release that will leave you with many smile induced moments! Not to be missed.

'Proton Music regulars and a thoroughly talented duo, LADS consistently astonish with their unique song-making and production abilities. June 2020's "Stoyote" was no exception and it is therefore a pleasure to see a return to the EP via a pair of stunning remixes from US and Greek artists.

Simos Tagias is an artist with a long and growing history with Proton Music. Able to point to well over a triple century of production credits, the Greek artist's work for Mango Alley, Replug and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat, sees an artist at the summit of the progressive house scene with a distinctive and mature sound. As such, Proton has been a regular home for Simos Tagias with a pair of original EPs that began with 2017's twin-track "Airlock" and continued with 2018's "Audacity". Furthermore, a host of remixes for the likes of Soulwerk, Tim Penner and, most recently, Dimuth K's "Beams Aglow" in March 2020, have impressed. Now, taking on the title track, the Simos Tagias remix of "Stoyote" is a typically dynamic affair that bristles with percussive flair via machine-gun fire hi-hats and seismic kick. Building in rhythmic layers, melodic elements from the original float across the eight-minute piece in familiar refrains as an array of additional production material and reverb-coated effects pan across the stereo spectrum with ease. An effortless rolling groove adds to the sonic collage in club-friendly splendour via a remix that is testament to Simos Tagias' skill and craft.'

Out of golden summer tones and autumnal harvest, Dmitry Molosh emerges through the "Orchard". From the broad banks of the Mukhavets River, beautiful sonic timbres create a rich sonic hue that glitters in sparkling sunlit patterns. A smooth bassline cadence fills the musical canvas as wonderful shards reveal themselves in sultry percussive rhythms and an exalted air of triumph oozes from every bar.

Dutch mastery from Kasper Koman reveals a new path within the familiar patterns of the "Orchard". A perfectly weighted backdrop provides the foundation for new melodies to emerge from the rhythmic bed. A spine-tingling bass progression reveals a crisp and crunchy new flavour. The golden age of the underground lost and found within an industry icon. Kharkhiv and Karlsruhe joined together by a single thread finds musical cross-pollination via Tantum and Arude. Grown out of storming bassline groove, smooth melodies blossom as delayed arpeggios echo through the trees.

A returning legend, Rauschhaus once again showcases a powerful performance with gentle touch and skill. Fresh melodies emerge from the branches of the "Orchard" to create a delicious aural flavour that shimmers with glissando freedom, while detailed layers expose perfectly formed harmonic phrases that create a sumptuous dancefloor accent.
