'An artist with a long and rich musical heritage, Paul Deep makes his Proportion debut with the 3-track “Fazed” EP. A single remix come from Greek artist, Blusoul.

From the town of O’Brien, part of the Buenos Aires province, Paul Deep has been a mainstay of the progressive house scene with his immaculate fusing of rhythm and melody. For almost a decade his releases have featured on an array of esteemed imprints that include GMJ & Matter’s Meanwhile, Juan Pablo Torrez’s Clubsonica Records and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. Over a double century of production credits thus tell their own story of Paul Deep’s success as he makes his debut on Proportion with “Fazed”.

Built upon a heavy beat and ticking percussive groove, the title track gently evolves with a range of melodic phrases that blends with sumptuous pads and shimmering arpeggios in an emotive combination. Waxing and waning with dancefloor knowhow, an exquisitely syncopated motif rolls forward with metronomic intensity to reveal a deep progressive gem. “Barion” continues the trademark rhythmic depth and rolling groove while textured pads and filtered motif enter the fray with typical subtlety and intensity. A beautiful piano sequence develops during the breakdown while a crescendo of delayed synth work paves the way for the dynamic groove to drop back into place alongside occasion vocal flourishes. Immediately revealing a slightly lighter touch and feel, “Ashura Path” excites with its off-beat hi-hats and punchy kick. Developing an expansive and beautifully cadenced synth pattern, delayed notes cascade across the stereo spectrum. Continuing a sparkling path across proceedings, the track reaches a rousing filtered denouement at the beatless mid-point before building once more through the final movement. Creamy pads and atmospheric swells add to the melange creating an intoxicating mix.

A long-term proponent of underground house movement dating back to a 2009 debut for The Sound of Everything, Harris Sgourdas has carved out a sizeable reputation over 15 years with his Blusoul soubriquet. An accomplished DJ and renowned figure in his Athens home city, plus producer of a portfolio of successful progressive house gems, the Greek star has found his work allied to some of the fines modern imprints that include the likes of Juice Box Music, Movement Recordings and Guy J’s Lost & Found. Making his Proportion debut, the Blusoul remix of “Fazed” builds around the rhythmic groove of the original before evolving effortlessly with intelligent use of familiar themes found within Paul Deep’s track. Rising and falling, a gathering sonic storm drives forwards as new melodic elements make their presence felt at the breakdown before extending through the second half with strong chord progression and club-friendly framework. The result is a powerful new interpretation that showcases craft and technique in abundance.'

John Cosani returns to the label with a powerful new EP!

Highly regarded among his peers, the plucky Argentinian has continued to gather pace with stand out tracks for Tale & Tone, onedotsixtwo, and Visceral to name a few. As well as DJ sets across Argentina and a stellar performance for Sudbeat recently at Stereo, Montreal.

Opening with 'Vulgare' John establishes his trademark style early with rolling shakers and muted sonics filtering up over the first section, and with the pace increasing tensions grow. The midsection renders out those threads of melody and the full fleshed out track is powerful and emotive.

Next up, 'One Dollar' thunders from the speakers from the off. Deep and dubby, the motifs linger adding tension throughout. A strong mid-set vibe for those big event crowds. Finally, 'Pink Power' rounds out the collection with subtle tribal feels. Spiky mid-bass powers the tune along for those head down groovathons he does so well. Madloch’s Sound Avenue imprint rounds out the month of May by showcasing new interpretations of ‘There’ by Jean Caillou. First emerging in 2016, Swiss artist Jean Caillou quickly established himself with releases via Magician On Duty, RYNTH, Sag & Tre and Underyourskin Records, where his deep, melodious sound flourished. Moving forward, July of 2019 saw the Zurich resident make his Sound Avenue debut with a well-received remix of Joe Miller’s ‘The Days’. Deep and enchanting in equal measure, its organic vibe immediately won over DJs and fans alike, sparking what has been a fruitful relationship between the Belgian imprint and Swiss artist. Now, nearly four years on from his label debut and Jean has recorded two artist EPs and two additional remixes, making him one of Sound Avenue’s most steadfast artists. Sitting as a highlight on Caillou’s resume has been ‘There’, a track which served as the lead piece on his first Sound Avenue artist showcase ‘Departure Unknown’. Its romantic overtones and intriguing vocal stylings found favour with a cross-section of electronic music tastemakers, while also receiving a progressive oriented remix from Dutch artist Daniel Van Der Zwaag. Now, looking to breathe new life into the track as we enter the summer season, Sound Avenue invites Berni Turletti, Beije and about : river to reimagine the production in their own unique essence. 

Providing the first remix of ‘There’ is Berni Turletti who returns to the label for his second appearance. Perhaps best known for his releases on Or Two Strangers, Higher States, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden, Berni Turletti brings a unique energy and perspective to progressive music. With the backing of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Argentinean artist has been tipped as one of the genre’s future stars. The last two calendar years have seen Berni continue to emerge, recording standout projects for Peace Symphonies, Plattenbank, Proportion and Mango Alley. Madloch’s Sound Avenue has also been a home for the Cordoba resident, with a well received remix of Forty Cats landing in July of last year.  Now, fresh off a remix for label affiliate 3rd Avenue, Berni returns to Sound Avenue with a gorgeous take on ‘There’. While maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Argentinean artist crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, one where redolent themes and heartfelt sonics blanket warm rippling grooves and flashing percussive arrangements. Coming to full fruition across the main break, it’s a bucolic college of pianos and effects which serves to elevate mood onwards to a thumping finale.

A welcome returning figure to the Meanwhile Roster, Mike Rish is no stranger to success. With numerous cross-genre hits under multiple aliases, his own name sees him reach rarefied heights in the Progressive House genre with work signed to Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music.

December 2021 saw a Meanwhile debut with the sublime 3-track “Beyond” EP, while April 2023 witnessed a standout reworking of Jamie Stevens’ “Storm Front”. Returning for a second outing, his latest triple tracker opens with the funky rhythmic backdrop of “GT”. Using an intricate percussive arrangement to provide a club-friendly foundation, a swathe of stereo-panned textures and synth effects meander across the opening movements, accompanied by delay-infused vocal cuts. A smooth arpeggio adds a touch of traditional progressive drive at the breakdown and beyond, while a further synth motif blossoms in the second half to sit alongside the rasping and explosive bassline.

Continuing the effects-laden narrative, “Shoreditch Funk” quickly makes its mark with a woodblock infused percussive top-line. Stereo-panned pads and saw-tooth synths pulsate in dizzying fashion while a grooved bassline adds dancefloor ‘funk’. A cascading arp makes its presence felt, pitching in freeform oscillator glory at the break, before continuing unabated in detuned fashion throughout the second half. The result is a vibrant sonic collage that bristles with verve and innovation.

The final track witnesses another meticulously conceived rhythmic arrangement throughout “Reka”, with a subtle bass sequence providing dancefloor sensibilities alongside a heavy 4/4 beat. An acetylene-torch lead mesmerises with its glissando phrasing while a glassy motif combines with gently pulsing pads that swim enticingly in smooth juxtaposition. Continuing themes redolent in previous outings, a beautifully imagined synth phrase syncopates in exquisitely cadenced rhythm alongside percussive counterparts. “Reka” then evolves into a delicately conceived melodic jewel in the latter stages.

“GT / Shoreditch Funk / Reka” continues to find Mike Rish very much at the leading edge of modern and pioneering Progressive House.

Juicebox Music's 66th release sees Chaum and Hobin Rude making their debut appearance on the imprint by teaming up for a 2-track EP featuring "Cressida" and "Mesec". Having been involved with music since the young age of 15, the Greek-born UK-based artist Angelos Moutsai decided to explore the darker electronic territory and created his 'Chaum' moniker in 2016. Honing his craft and sound to align with the futuristic vision, Chaum's productions can be found on well established labels like Mango's 'Mango Alley', Tash's 'Movement' and Jelly For The Babies' 'One of a Kind', 'The Purr' and 'Rynth'. The Belgrade (Serbia) based artist Hobin Rude, better known as Ognjen Cerovic to his friends and family, catapulted into the 'rising star' category as soon as he made his first appearance in 2020. With releases on Nick Warren's 'The Soundgarden', Guy Mantzur's 'Plattenbank' and DJ Zombi's 'Beat Boutique', to name a few, Hobin Rude's dark and gritty style has become a firm favourite across many DJs. Joining forces and bringing their strength's forward, Chaum and Hobin Rude collaboration also saw them releasing a single more recently on Hernan Cattaneo and Graziano Raffa's 'Sudbeat'. Following their call to the darker side, both Chaum and Hobin Rude delve into the deepest depths to churn out "Cressida" and "Mesec". Fueled by the focus on a heavy groove, powerful drive and creative sound-design, both of these peak-time productions truly embody that philosophy.

Hailing from the talent-rich region of Cordoba, Ivan’s musical palate takes reference from the progressive genre’s vast spectrum; in turn creating an authentic voice that is discernibly his own. Noted for his attention to detail, tough kick drums and electric design quality, Ivan's craft shines through vividly, making each one of his creations an exhilarating experience. On the strength of releases via Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Or Two Strangers and The Soundgarden, Ivan has earned the praise of genre trendsetters Cid Inc, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed and more. Now, following his latest Mango Alley vehicle ‘Blue Shade’, Ivan makes his Replug debut with a two-track showcase entitled ‘Lonely World’.

The EP’s title selection ‘Lonely World’ sets the tone with a remarkable display of rhythm and musicality. Tight, compact and bursting with ultrasonic energies, it’s a creation built around meditative melodies and temperate harmonies. There’s a strong sense of cruising across the first movement, one that allows the listener to relish in Ivan’s rippling grooves and orbiting effects, in turn perfectly setting up a series of poignant chord changes and processed piano’s which carry energy into the main break. Ivan’s craftsmanship shines across the interlude, with effervescent phrasing and fuzzed out synth swagger cleverly coaxing, eventually revealing a pixie-like lead melody which pushes onwards to a finale that is equal parts cosmic and emotive.

The companion piece ‘Speed’ follows and is an apt barometer of where Ivan’s headspace is at, as he lets tight kick drums lay the foundation for gritty percussion and devilish effects to create a darker monochrome. Energies shift and emotion rises as hopeful pads emerge, bringing depth and space to the pyrotechnic framework, before getting washed away in a wave of deconstructed sonics for a heady finale. It’s a thrilling conclusion to a fresh two-track showcase, one where Ivan Aliaga makes an impressive Replug debut, and carefully balances rhythm and groove with technique and melody.'
