Much time had passed since the uprising of the demon kings had sprung forth from the ancient obelisk, bringing ruin to the great city that had been built around it. Yet more had passed since humanity had lost their homeworld to these malevolent creatures, who poured out from the monument with no other desire than to torture, pillage, and destroy. For years, all-out war had raged on the Earth’s surface and yet for all of humanity’s most valiant efforts, the killing of one demon had begotten only the rising of two more. In their final hour, those scant few who survived had fled to the stars, abandoning the wreckage of their beloved home. It was there that they maintained an uneasy existence above it, one tied to the sanctuary of a handful of meager orbital stations scattered amidst their solar system.
	
It was from these stations that they now watched in horror as a great celestial body rapidly entered their domain, its surface scarred by gargantuan visages of suffering and despair that protruded from its surface. As it neared the abandoned remains of their homeworld, the gravity well of the hellish sphere sucked its shattered pieces almost instantaneously inward as though feeding the horrific faces that marred its ochre hide. Though sound permeated not through the vacuum of space, the minds of all those who watched were split by a psychic scream of pleasure that emanated forth from the planet as though it were a living being. Then, as though sated by the life it had consumed, it began to drift back beyond the bounds of their solar system, completing the cycle of DIVERGENCE once more.

Bristol-based producer SMG joins Critical Music’s talent incubating Binary sub-label with three full pressure pieces of dance floor focused drum & bass.

After just a few years releasing music, SMG’s accomplished take on the minimal jump-up strain of D&B has marked his name out among the torrent of new artists pouring into the genre. 

Seizing his moment in style, SMG’s contribution to the Binary catalogue blasts into life with ‘Codebreaker’; rolling out the amens before collapsing into an ultra stripped back groove of polished subs and slicing snares.

‘The Voice’, alongside fellow recent Binary inductee VISLA, maintains the pace as a breathless rhythm works away beneath a perfectly scruffy call-and-response bassline; while ‘Jackhammer’ hits even harder, skilfully bouncing together space laser sonics and tough stepping drums to do its name more than justice.

The percussive impact of a lone T-REX’s talons echoed down the street with reptilian confidence, an emotion shared and augmented by the pompous mannerisms of the man who rode astride it. The beast’s monstrous nature forced friend and enemy alike to take reverent notice of his very presence, and the man quite enjoyed being the center of attention as his mount lumbered through the jagged alleyways that had long been his home. Lost amidst his own grandeur, his mind wandered to thoughts of childhood bullies, business rivals, and others of an unappreciable ilk. They, he smugly thought, did not have the latest model of theropod mount. His, by contrast, was magnificent as it fed upon the occasional stray or frightened bird and left a smattering of spattered crimson in his wake. 

As a science, genomic revival had been actualized for almost as long as the man himself had been alive. He had for so long dreamed of this day, having watched in envy as the folk of the upper city rode upon perfect biological chimera that answered to their every whim. Though the costs associated with the creation of such creatures had decreased significantly, such prestigious beasts as his own T-REX still lay well beyond the income of a mere android repairman like himself. Thus it was that as he had happened upon the body of his current mount clinging to life atop a local scrap heap, he had rushed to its aid and imbued its body with every piece of spare artificial biology at his disposal. Now, as the cybernetic augmentations to his beast’s ruddy hide shone lustrous in the sun, the man reclined pridefully into his saddle as he uttered a silent prayer in the hopes that his hacked together diet inhibitor would continue to keep himself off of his new mount’s menu. 

MIDNIGHT CVLT returns to EATBRAIN with T-REX, a five track EP that sees one of EATBRAIN’s most recent additions unleash a furious follow-up to 2023’s “Bloodfire” EP on the label. Marked by the menacing sonic character so alluded to by his moniker, the five tracks within T-REX are sure to induct a fresh batch of souls into the EATBRAIN horde under the sway of MIDNIGHT CVLT’s undeniable influence.

Simula returns to Critical Music for his debut solo release; delivering four typically unabashed sonic monsters that smash the sub-genre conventions of drum & bass.

Having made his name with a unique style that sits somewhere between the playful simplicity of direct-to-dancefloor jump-up and more minimal, techier strains of the D&B spectrum, the variety presented on the ‘Salvo’ EP marks a further stride forward for Simula.

‘Venator’ is classic Simula with its relentless stepping drums punctuating a manic game of synthesiser call-and-response, while title track ‘Salvo’ brings serious drama as it alternates between hellish, wailing synths and heads down, low-end percussive workouts.

Rolling things back with some mid-90s nostalgia, ‘Oculus’ welds Simula’s trademark snarling bass licks and razor sharp snares with layers of vintage, breathy drum breaks and the occasional oscillating sub.

Finally, ’Melancholy’ featuring Catching Cairo brings moods to match the name - awash with sombre musicality and swooning soundscapes that subside for a strangely beautiful synth melody that, like Simula, is nothing but unique.

SK:       Dvojica The Maniacs aka Andrej Lakomčík (Contraption) a Andrej Lupták (Jacarez) majú 20 rokov, pochádzajú z Banskej Bystrice. Lámaným beatom sa začali venovať na prelome rokov 2010 a 2011. Zo začiatku to bol predovšetkým djing, no po čase začali zabŕdať do producentsky známeho programu FL studio, kde si vytvárali vlastné soundy. Vďaka tomu sa dostali do povedomia širšej verejnosti a niekoľkých nahrávacích štúdii. Na konci roka 2013 začali spolupracovať s ERMB records ktorý vlastní Ero Drummer. V úvode roka 2014 vyšli ich prvé single Rescue a Get Down. Dneska vydávajú už svoj štvrtý release na labeli ERMB (Deep Space a Riot). Všimli si ich aj promotéri a odohrali svoje prvé lokálne akcie Urban Sound v Bystrickom Urban Spote a nechýbali ani na tohtoročnom Trident Opean Air na Duchonke. Vďaka DJ Contestu sa im podarilo vyhrať miesto v line-upe na populárnu Českú akciu HoofBeats open air, kde si zahrali po boku takých mien ako Mefjus, A-Cray, Forbidden Society a CZ top scény. Mohli ste ich vidieť hrať na akciách V Trnave(Summit), Bánovciach nad Bebravou(Bassmission),Bratislave)dnb.sk presentz) . . . V polovici roku 2014 sa stávajú rezidentmi akcie Break It v rodnej Bystrici. Do budúcnosti by chceli zlepšovať svoj zvuk a pravidelne hrávať na klubovej scéne.

 EN:     The Maniacs Duo, aka Andrej Lakomčík (Contraption) and Andrej Lupták (Chico). They're both nineteen years old and from the same small town, Podkonice, which lies on the outskirts of Banská Bysrica. They started dropping beats around 2010 - 2011 and they've continued doing so to this day. They're favorite artists are Emperor, Prolix, Mindscape, BSE, Mefjus, Rido, Optiv, BTK, Maztek etc. At first they preferred using Djing, but after a while they found FL Studio to be a better program to make their own music. Thanks to that they've captured the interest of a few recording companies. By the end of 2013 they were able to start working with Ermb Records to release their first single Get Down and Rescue, which will mostly consist of their genre, Neurofunk. In the future, they wish to improve and regularly play their music in the club scene
