Dreamland is the new feel-good anthem from the undisputed heavyweights of breaks, the Plump DJs. Ravers with a keen ear will recognize the vocal sample from the early days of drum n bass, although this 2022 rework delivers an entirely new spin.   

Over the past few months we have witnessed epic scenes of the Plump DJs playing sold-out shows including Stanton Sessions and their BreakOut tour in Australia - and the unanimous top tune of these nights? Dreamland.

"This is hands down the stand-out track in my set right now" says Krafty Kuts who quickly signed Dreamland to his Against The Grain label.

The release features a jaw-dropping suite of remixes including Pirate Jams who deliver a euphoric hardcore crowd-pleaser for the ravers, while heavyweight drum n bass producer Erb N Dub, whose recent tracks hit number 2 and 8 in the Beatport DNB chart, delivers a rework so dirty it should probably come with a health warning. Newcomers Dirty Supercar flip the script with a summery disco-house rework ensuring this release has something for everyone.

Plump DJs 'Dreamland'

People. Events. Dancing. It all came back in 2022, and supplied the soundtrack of our lives with a fresh burst of dancefloor inspiration. Some fantastic albums came out this year and seemed to revive the long player as a serious artform, supplying us with hits from Fred Again, a reunited Swedish House Mafia, and Kendrick Lamar. This made it both easy and hard to put together this year's Best of 2022 Mix – a bounty of tunes to choose from, but hard choices of what to include in just 60 minutes. Those that made the cut this year include ODESZA, Sam Smith, Sia, Tove Lo, Peking Duk, Diplo, and even Kate Bush courtesy of a Stranger Things revival. But the final message in this mix has to go to Maxi Jazz from Faithless who passed away just days ago and provided a voice to an entire generation of warehouse club goers.

Noisia - Collider (The Glitch Mob Remix)

It’s always incredibly fun looking back over the whole year in music and piecing together the best parts like a jigsaw. This is the sixth instalment in my year end “Best Songs of 20XX” DJ mixes and it was incredibly hard to pick the songs that would fit into just one hour. That’s why there’s 52 of them, and it goes from 120 beats per minute all the way up to a blistering 174bpm.

There was a huge return of 90s influences in 2023, epitomised by Calvin Harris’ “Miracle” replete with echoing piano runs and soaring, pitched up vocals. Rave and Drum & Bass also had strong resurgences, ratcheting up the bpms and breaking through into pop with tunes like Charlotte Haining and goddard.’s “High Hopes”.

For me personally, I got to have a lot of fun DJing at some of the biggest events of my life, from the back of a float in the World Pride Mardi Gras in Sydney (a combined audience of 100,000!), to a basement in London, the middle of the Tasmanian bush, and Canva celebrations in Manila and Austin. It’s always the biggest thrill playing both new and unexpectedly retro tunes to crowds who are up for a good time, and you were all great crowds 🥳

So take a listen to the mix, and I hope it serves as a great hallmark of the year that was 2023 and all the good memories you’ve had wherever you went.

The Best Of 2023 Mix

This was one of the hardest year-end mixes to make so far, simply because there were too many great tracks to choose from in 2024. Fitting them all into one hour was an impossible task. 58 tracks *was* possible though, and this year continued the huge diversity of tempos that now make up the modern dancefloor, from slow disco to euphoric drum and bass.

I had the immense pleasure of DJing many of these tracks for different crowds all around the world – from Mardi Gras in Sydney to SXSW in Texas – and testing out the surefire dancefloor fillers, so that helped with the selection criteria as well.

Afro House is having a moment right now, so several African-tinged tracks are the perfect opener for this mix, and new albums from Fred again.., RÜFÜS DU SOL, and Charli Xcx provided plenty of great material. But standout artist of the year for me has to be Sonny Fodera. His track "Somedays" (featuring the equally standout Jazzy) is an absolute killer.

So fire up your speakers for this mix and use it as a reminder of all the great things that happened for you in 2024.
