As the rest of the country gathers together they commemorate colonisation. But for us the 26th of January is a day of sadness, grief, and most importantly, a day of remembrance. It is a sacred day for our people to pay respect to those we lost and to support our brothers and sisters who continue to suffer now.
 
It is also a day to march and honour our survival.
 
We march for those who lived.
We march for those who triumphed.
We march for those who fought fiercely to pass on our culture and our stories.
We march in honour of our ancestors and in reverence of our dreamtime.
And we march for a better Australia.
 
An Australia that is compassionate to all who live here now and respectful to all who came before.
 
The time has come for us as a country to WAKE UP to our history.

Wake Up was recorded at 301 in Byron Bay, Australia in December 2014. Produced by Carlo Santone (Blue King Brown/One Rebel Creative) Engineered & Mixed by Nick Didia (Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Powderfinger).
 
Sydney based artist, Tony Albert was commissioned for the Wake Up artwork.   Albert was awarded Best Visual Artist in this year’s FBi Sydney Music Arts & Culture (SMAC) Awards.  He also recently won the 2014 National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award - with a bold critique of police attitudes towards Indigenous men.

   Picking up where their acclaimed debut single left off, AS ELEPHANTS ARE return with "Youth Blood"/"Lucifer", another blistering slice of epic, widescreen indie which will be available on March 8th via Once Upon A Time Records.

   AS ELEPHANTS ARE formed in 2011 after Ben (vocals/guitar) and Harry (bass) had to collaborate on the writing and recording of music for their college music course. Realising that there was no one else like-minded on the course they recruited an old school friend each in Joe (guitar) and Rob (drums) to complete the recording line up. All four had been music obsessives from a young age but this was the first time they had ever played music with other people who felt the same way. Things gelled immediately…

   Building on the success of their debut single, “War Cry”, which became an instant blog hit as well becoming a regular on XFM’s playlist and Amazing Radio’s A-List, reaching #3 on the Amazing Radio Charts and picking up spins from the likes of Mary Ann Hobbs and Huw Stephens, "Youth Blood"/"Lucifer" provides a captivating second taste of AS ELEPHANTS ARE’s innovative and atmospheric indie-rock.

   “Lucifer" will be available as a limited free download before the single’s official release on March 31st 2013.

Music is at its best when it’s unpredictable. When it comes packed with surprises, the unexpected. Truly great music has always been about challenging convention, the ‘didn’t see that coming moment’. It’s a tradition that’s at the heart of The Medics – as both people and as artists.  It’s a sound that is all over the band’s stunning debut album Foundations (Footstomp/Warner) as featured on Triple J and includes the singles Griffin, Joseph, Slowburn and Beggars.  

The band’s story started in Cairns, far north Queensland, Australia and has seen their emergence as one of Australia's most genuinely exciting new bands performing at Splendour in the Grass, Big Day Out, Laneway, Groovin' the Moo, Woodford and The Dreaming Festivals. 

The Medics took out top honours at the 2012 National Indigenous Music Awards with wins for Album of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Griffin and were crowned Best New Talent at the 2013 Rollingstone Awards. 

Kahl, Jhindu, Andrew and Charles are currently working on the follow up to Foundations for release in 2015. (Warner Music Australia)
