Healthy Self, Heal Thy Self - Segment 1

This week (First week of April 2018) The Melanin Room is kicking back off with a Nipsey Hussle Tribute. Sunday, March 31st, 2019 the Black Community lost a pivotal leader. Nipsey Hussle embodied everything that young Black men in America should strive to do and become. He was a leader who turned his life around, from being an active gang member, to being a rapper, business owner, father, fiancé, and leader to those who needed hope. 

Perhaps at the time we took for granted the presence of Nipsey showing our community what it meant to be an active unapologetic leader who didn’t fold to pressure that comes with being a celebrity. 

The Melanin Room talks with Aleeyah Sanders, a graduate of Tuskegee University and business owner of Rebuild Tuskegee about the importance of ownership in our community. Also, Joshua Robinson, President of Sacramento City Black Student Union spoke up about how we have a blueprint that is here for us as leaders to pick up and continue on. Jazlyn Fuller, graduate of Tuskegee University and Community Activist spoke about how we have to take an honest look at ourselves on a large scale as a community if we want to see progression in our community.

Last month, I held a demonstration, entitled, The Wake Up Call for Stephon Clark on Tuskegee University’s campus in solidarity for standing up for Black people being killed in our community not only by police, but also by each other. Nipsey Hussle’s tragic transition is another WAKE UP CALL to our community. We all we got!
