Zauberstab V.A. Volume 1 is a compilation of electronic bedroom music made by contemporary artists that belong to similar sonic spheres.

The A side feels like a holiday in an exotic landscape; the kind of place you don't want to leave. The B side then goes in a slightly deeper meditative direction, but not too far, since the sparking disco-infused psych exploration of ’Space Surfari’ will hold you back from falling into the void of the unconscious.

What comes next is the sound that would welcome a moonlit night sky. The C side slinks into a minimal synth oriented exploration, ending with the intergalactic hopeful drift of ‘Har’.

The last side will provide a comfortable seat on this hypnotic journey. ‘Été 2017’ is an ode to the late summer nights, a mind-driving loop carried by gentle percussive sounds, filled with some bass deepness. The next tracks are the right balance between a hug and a breeze of fresh air for your mind and soul.

At this point you might find yourself wondering if it’s a good idea to open your eyes or just keep them closed for a bit longer and thoroughly enjoy all of the details of this story.

But, why not? This one is, after all, a record to build beautiful memories with.

Zauberstab V.A. - Volume 1 (LIOVA01)

Upon meeting some years ago in Berlin, Galina & Andreina connected creatively and embarked on a musical voyage. These are studio recordings from Xberg in 2018, at a time when they gave life and animation to a beautiful and young electronic music scene.

Sono I’imperatore is a special three track EP from Eva Geist & Chikiss featuring artwork from Marius Houschyar.

Recently released on Düsseldorf's Candomblé, the Das Wettbüro band from berlin drops a great debut-EP. Made of funny sonic experimentations and groovy weirdo disco enhanced by entertaining rhythms, "Gewinnt Immer" EP (literally 'always winning') also includes this epic piece of dronesque kosmische kraut. You know, under the sun and LSD, everything melt together at the beach. Sweet ice cream and salty, sweaty bodies, eyes lost in the sea or the horizon (isn't it the same after all?), both kind of waves taking control of your mind.

We’ve patiently waited after LSW’s 2019 debut “Life Style West” and it was more than worth it. The Düsseldorf group is blessing us with their sophomore work “Mir Tut Alles Weh” — Everything Hurts. But why does it feel so good?

This 11-track double LP is guaranteed to be a hit in your local Stammkneipe. Packed with forward-thinking nostalgia, poetic impressions of western decadence, LSW are certifying that punk remains posh in the Federal Republik of Germany. 

In an undeniably candombléan set up, Leonard Horres, Sebastian Welicki, Gregor Darman and Aki Vierboom continue their weird world building with a more mature sound. A holistic, detailed production that leaves you finding new elements at every listen.

Broken only by occasional melodic whispers, Horres introduces us to his city with ecstatic reiterations of his deepest, most deconstructed and sarcastically self-depreciating narratives. Dampened, forward-moving, industrial rhythms, orchestrated upon with live instrumentation and spherical synths pull us back and forth between dirty streets and the light clouds above. All with that chique nonchalance we cannot withstand. 

Is this the new Deutsche Welle? Or eclectic Angstwave at its finest? Whatever, Schatz.

Twoonky, the brothers duo from Brescia (Italy) formed by Michele and Simone Bornati, is back on Macadam Mambo for a second album. After their brillantissimo ‘Dezzo’ from 2019, which was well noticed by the underground scene, the new opus ‘Ottico’ won’t leave you static. This is the kind of masterpiece that the more you listen, the more you love. At the opposite of grandiloquent music that would have immediate effect, ‘Ottico’ is much more subtile, surfing on a cool wave of styles, a collage of vibes going from 70’s Kraut to 90’s Trip-Hop, where the analog sounds of guitars, synths, distorded voices, saxo, samples and electronics FX match so well, creating an ensemble in the unique mutant flow of the Twoonky’s that makes it so intemporal and so modern in the meanwile. It’s not about being curious, it’s about being open on crossing boundaries, like they are used to do with their unique place called Spettro in Brescia, where all the avant-garde of the electronic scene is coming to perform. ‘Ottico’ could be a kind of representation of the spirit of Spettro, and possibly one of the most interesting release of 2023. We don’t know why, but it’s true, Italians do it better ☺

The forest offered an escape, it was their favourite place to frequent to help free their mind from troubles. Everything seemed to have a calming effect: the soft flow of the stream, the green leaves rustling in the light wind, sounding something like a distant flute meandering through the trees. Everybody needed a place like this. Here, merriment was free and it was unlimited...

After putting together a hefty V/A compilation in aid of bushfire relief earlier this year, Sydney-based label Moonshoe return for something a little more bitesize - a debut EP from local artist COUSIN. A refined first release, the four tracks explore heady and psychedelic realms, bringing together organic dubwise rhythms and hypnotic subs that give us a sublime introduction to the world of COUSIN.
