Foule Contact is about freeing ourselves from barriers and finding ourselves together, through music in its more profound way. Going from the virtual world to real-life and connect all together in each and every one of those tracks. Foule Contact is the idea that the current atmosphere won’t last forever, and that we already expect our reunion, cradled with tenderness and all the energy accumulated over the last few months.

Washington DC-based Lurid Music welcomes Belgian producer YNV for his debut album entitled “Golden Hour Ritual” that showcases his entrancing blend of avant exotica, Middle Eastern mysticism and cabaret electronica.

YNV was born in Brussels in 1979 and moved to California in 2013. He has so far released tracks on Invisible Inc and Emotional Response. Along with his upcoming debut album on Lurid Music, he has a single ready to be released on Neubau. He is a video artist and music curator for the Vague Terrain nights in San Francisco. In his music, as with his videos, he exploits the liminal space between our most disparate emotional states and the tenuous thread that binds our inner world to reality at its face value. Carrying the torch of his Euro roots, you hear the influence of his homeland with some California sunshine and a palm tree thrown in for good measure.

His LP for Lurid Music features nine original tracks of a brooding cinematic nature, transporting you to the sheltering courtyard shade of a desert riad where every movement seems as theatrically measured and eccentrically calculated as anything Tuxedomoon, The Residents or Dead Can Dance ever produced. The LP closes with a slow acid trance remix from Anatolian Weapons.

Lead track ‘Weltschmerz’ sounds like an instant Berghain classic; dark, massive, trippy, and with an emotional character all too rare within the genre. The kicks are banging, the verbed out percussion is fierce, and it all moves around a haunting melodic breakdown that artfully dances on the right side of ‘progressive.’ It’s a killer track that perfectly sets the tone for the whole record.

‘Damage Control’ is a straightforward flex-a-thon, a housier rhythm that struts along confidently. The technical term is ‘floor-filler.’ ‘Lonesome’ brings the emotion back, with it’s super-tense, unresolved melodies, this is perfect for all your mega-club yearning & gurning needs. ‘Relatives of None’ is the nastiest of the bunch, and probably the most at home on Turbo, built around a screechy synth hook. Finally, ’Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme)’ provides an epic ambient outro, crystallizing the emotional tones of the EP and establishing a sense of artistic vision that ascends well beyond the pedestrian.

Nico Motte, the man behind the visual identity of Parisian imprint, Antinote, marks his label comeback with Life Goes On If You Are Lucky. Following on from last year's beautiful debut 12" on the aforesaid label, Nico's dialogue with his musical machines continue in the seven tracks of his new LP.

Touching on LGOIYAL's housier tip, "I.C.A" builds complexity through its layers of synth pads, synthesised woodwind, basslines and percussion – all incredibly melodious in nature, and orchestrated with ease by Nico. Behind the multiple structures hides the heart of the song which, after several listens, grows on you before you've even truly realised. Nico's multi-craft of composition, arrangement, conducting and production is plausible once experiencing the seven (not so much tracks but) instrumental suites in Life Goes On If You Are Lucky. An opus that experiments bravely with the sonic spectrum in its entirety, from live saxophone to vocals in the form of Syracuse's Isabelle, and explores human fragility in its fullest, frankest form.

Life Goes On If You Are Lucky comes out on 14 December via Antinote.

Nico Motte "I.C.A" - Boiler Room Debuts

For our final record of the year, we turn to Glasgow's man of the year - Denis Sulta.

Like a good chunk of the Numbers family, he has earnt his stripes working at the coalface of techno aka Rubadub. He has crafted two excellent twelves for our bare-chested cousins at Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and is beginning to carve himself out a reputation as a DJ of some repute, expertly blending in the bangers with Sulta-certified weirdness. Denis is part of a new wave of Glaswegian artists who are doing amazing things and whose music is continuously exciting us.

‘It’s Only Real’ created by Sulta during a burst of inspiration one Sunday, takes us back to a time when techno was intricately melodic but still kicked hard in the club. Made with only the purest of intentions and a dedication to the art of moving heads and feet.

Just as glaciers heave towards their destiny in slow time, the ship entered the harbour. It’s countless thousands of tons gently docked, and its microbial passengers transmitted onto land. There it waited in silent gravity, expressing weight and weightlessness in one floating gesture. Can we truly fathom the scales of this leviathan?

If Strktur’s first three releases were made for the main room, then his latest album would surely soundtrack the dark room. He leaves behind the grandiosity of his early techno productions to discover a cosmopolitan coldwave swagger on Hors Série, his first LP. Sitting moodily amongst nine other superb tracks of ice-cool electro, 'Le Quai d'en Face' is a leanly arranged cut of austere synth-pop that eschews complexity in favour of a cut-throat groove. Importantly, he cuts ties with Nashton Records, Trau Mar and Airsound Records to self-release the LP on his own Bandcamp, structuring a new identity.

The slow and trancey virtuoso from Frankfurt is back to release his solo EP. Each track has its own movement - mysterious, tense, exploring, expanding. Each movement is a medicine for your flesh and soul. The EP also includes great sounds from Greece. The remix by Anatolian Weapons is, as always, something more than just an interpretation.

From the first tribal beats, this EP triggers your body to want to move, something we're sorely lacking these days. We hope you can shake off the pandemic cobwebs to these tunes, wherever you are.
