In 2008, Termanology began making a name for himself, he had several highly-acclaimed singles in rotation and when DJ Premier laced him with one of his signature, scratch-laden beats on "Watch How It Go Down" the hood conscious anthem became an underground classic; and with it Termanology thrust himself onto hip-hop's international radar.

Soon after, Term released his solo-debut, Politics As Usual, a project that included a Mount Rushmore like array of producers; DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Havoc, Alchemist, Hi-Tek, Buckwild, Easy Mo Bee & Nottz. Politics As Usual was one of those rare projects which managed to merge the best of both worlds for Hip-Hop fans; meshing classic boom-bap production from a virtual who's who list of production royalty with Term’s lyricism, swagger and bravado.

Just as in life, in hip-hop everything comes full-circle and while a lot has changed since Termanology released his debut; he’s back with More Politics.  Similar to his debut, More Politics again brings together the elite of the elite beatsmiths, as Just Blaze, Q-Tip, Buckwild, Hi-Tek, Nottz, Dame Grease, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and his brother from another mother Statik Selektah all contribute production.  

Today, with an exclusive premiere with Mass Appeal, Termanology officially announces More Politics (Showoff/ST/Brick Records) and liberates a new track, “I Dream B.I.G.” featuring 2/3 of The Lox.

‘The Golden Buddha’ is out Jan 19th, 2018 on Brick Records.

Planet Asia helped jump-start the West Coast independent hip-hop movement, and has solidified himself as one of the most consistent and respected MCs in the game over his 20+ year career.   He dropped his debut EP with producer Fanatik in 1998, and followed up quickly with the singles "Definition of Ill" (Stones Throw) and "Place of Birth" (ABB Records).  In 2001, The Source Magazine gave him the ‘First Round Draft Pick’ and ‘Independent Album of the Year’ awards for ‘How the West Was One’, which was recorded with fellow CA rapper Rasco under the group name Cali Agents.  This landed him a deal with Interscope Records, where he was signed until 2003 without releasing an album.  

Planet Asia was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 for his feature on the song "W" by Mystic, and was later signed to Avatar Records, which released his official debut album, ‘The Grand Opening,’ in 2004.  It earned him another ‘Independent Album of the Year’ award from The Source.  Later, he started his own imprint Gold Chain Music, on which he has churned out multiple projects.  He has also collaborated on albums with the likes of DJ Muggs (‘Pain Language’), Evidence (‘The Medicine’) and Madlib (‘Cracks In The Vinyl’), among others, and released songs with artists such as Linkin Park, Bun B, Talib Kweli and Ghostface Killah.

In 1996 7L & Esoteric (known at the time, with third partner Karma, as God Complex) came out to record one of their first songs at my home studio in Medford.  The first session consisted of finding and fooling around with loops and beats, and much freestyle fooling around on the mic with a friend who happened to be with them, Nabo The Jedi.  A week later the guys came back, sans Nabo, and dropped their final vocals and cuts, I ran a quick mix onto DAT for them, and that was it.  I wouldn't even say I "produced" it, merely recorded and engineered and mixed it, chiming in with some creative suggestions here and there.  But they wanted to keep it simple and direct, so that mix was what ended up on their first vinyl release (https://youtu.be/TKRO-uCmy_M). God Complex would soon refine itself without Karma into simply 7L & Esoteric, Nabo would go on to be Nabo Rawk of the Porn Theatre Ushers, and I threw myself single-mindedly into producing for TYPE 4 for the next 20 years.  But I always had this track in the back of my head, with a desire to go back in and remix it with a slightly more intricate (more "me") style of production and arrangement.  It wasn't until 2018 that I finally got around to it.  Luckily I still had the original ADAT masters, along with other source material like the VHS tape upon which was their oft-used "Strontium 90" voice sample, and also a cassette tape onto which I had run recordings of those first fun freestyle sessions.  It is from those tapes that I grabbed the Nabo freestyle verse with which I close out this remix; one of several little production in-jokes I threw in to keep the project fun for myself. In the Spring of 2019, I made this audio documentary for a hip-hop literature class taught by Professor Cameron Leader-Picone. The documentary dives into "Lecco's Lemma," a show which began on MIT's college radio station, WMBR 88.1 FM, in the mid 80s and was hosted by Magnus Johnstone. The show became widely influential in the Boston hip-hop scene and has since become a significant part of the Massachusetts Hip-Hop Archive at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

For my research, I conducted interviews with Dr. Pacey Foster, the archivist who runs the Massachusetts Hip-Hop Archive, and with Matt Reyes, a Boston native who grew up listening to and performing on "Lecco's Lemma." With permission from Pacey, I also scoured through the archive, and pulled a lot of audio materials from it to give listeners of my documentary a chance to hear "Lecco's Lemma" in its original form. 

This documentary won an Award of Excellence from the Broadcast Education Association and was a finalist for Best Documentary at the 2020 Intercollegiate Broadcast System Conference.
