Who is Rolas, and where does the name come from?

The name Rolas literally means "Songs", because he's always had an interest in creating songs. Rolas is a first generation Mexican-American, and he was the only male in the house growing up. Brought up around drugs, gangs, and violence, Rolas turned his focus to music to escape his harsh reality. His love for music blossomed into an ultimate fascination with the simple sounds of the drum, and the rhythm in the cymbals. Now with his adaptive style, Rolas is here to bring heart and reality back to the music industry. He goes where the music takes him.

What is your ultimate goal in your music career?

He is committed to gaining a life experience from his music, and he is determined to make it a lasting effort. Rolas would like to give back to his community through music in order to better it for the future generations. He is ready to grind it out and take it to the next level with other aspiring musicians and artists.

Where are you from, and where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Rolas was born and raised in North-town Las Vegas, Nevada (Pecos & Owens). He was sent to Denver, Colorado when he was thirteen years old on summer vacation and never returned to Vegas. Rolas fell in love with the environment in Colorado and adapted immediately. In the future, he sees himself helping the community through charities and keep youth from turning to gangs. Rolas also hopes to see himself on tour and deeply involved with the music community in the coming years.

When did you first start writing, and when did you realize you wanted to be a MC?

Realizing his interest in hip hop, and inspired by teachers at school telling him that he was gifted in poetry, Rolas began writing lyrics at eight years old. Continuing through high school with his passion he began experimenting with freestyle around seventeen. Rolas learned about bars and started writing complete songs at nineteen years old. He completed his first song "Stay Alive" with his best friend at nineteen in an at home studio assembled with free items. After meeting another local artist that was performing shows at the time, Rolas was set on making a career of his own.

How do you want your music to affect society?

Rolas wants people to take the experience in his music to learn from, as everything is not always good in the hood. "Reach one, Teach one" is a motto he uses to refer to his music. He wants people to know that there is someone else out there feeling their pain. Rolas understands that he can't please everyone, but he is pleased to show who he really is as a person through rhythm and rhyme.
