This was described on the original sleeve as 'An epic journey through space and time'. This megamix got lots of exposure, probably more to its quirkiness rather than appreciation of the mix itself. Less machine-gun style than previous Mixbuster creations.  Obviously titled, the track is built around sic-fi references and some classic and slightly obscure tracks.

Pretty sure Jeff Wayne and Bernard Sumner would be horrified within the first minute. When mixing this live for a crowd it was based more around Stakker's 'Humanoid', but when the mix finally went to tape it had evolved to only include a small section of the live performance. As a piss-take I asked a mate whether he had Sarah Brightman's 'Starship Trooper', he promptly delivered a mint original 12" from his record collection! And I thought my record stash was obscure!

Remember, in case of an alien invasion you should "… answer the enemy with your final weapon, The Mixbuster!" ;-)

The Mixbuster 'Space Mix'

Really delving into the archive!  Parts 1 & 2 of The Mixbuster's musical anthology featuring some of the biggest pop tunes from the 80s and 90s. A machine gun style megamix which did see a limited white label release. The final section (Part 3) was recorded a few years later, with the idea to bring us through the 90s and beyond. On this version, snippets of it appear at the end (Madonna's Vogue for example) which was to tease the next edition.  Part 3 has never been released and sits on the shelf.

For the geeks: "Mostly mixed from vinyl 7"/12" originals on Technics SL1210 mk2s, a second-hand £50 Numark mixer, an Akai sampler with a 'MASSIVE' 12 seconds of sample time, with pitchshift and delay duties via a Zoom FX box.  Stuff from CD went in via a Technics SLP1200.  I'm possibly the only person on the planet to buy one of those bad boys!  The mix was recorded and spliced together on 1/4" reel to reel tape using my trusty old Revox B77 MK2 - one of the most cherished items in my studio today.  Tape was everywhere for 3 days solid!  I'd worked out every bit of this mix in my head months before recording and it went to tape virtually as I'd imagined it would! What a flipping saddo! :-)"

The Mixbuster 'Lost In Music'

Big tunes from 95 mashed up by The Mixbuster.  Originally produced for UK radio station NRG (FIRE FM).  This megamix was also available on white label.  This is one of the most loved, but rarest megamixes from The Mixbuster collection.

The Mixbuster 'Back To 1995'

An excerpt from a Saturday night Mixbuster radio show on FIRE from August 2005.

Here's the geeky bit:

"This one starts with a loop built up of snippets of all the tracks the listener is about to hear, all done using just a Korg Kaoss Pad 2.  The KP2 also took care of filtering and the delay fxs for the various TV/Film samples that were used week in week out.

The tunes flow in around the loop throughout the mix - all multi-tracked onto a Yamaha AW16G workstation.  The majority of the radio specials were actually recorded onto the Yamaha.  Fast workflow, without the distractions of a computer-based DAW.  Because of the time pressures to produce the weekly shows to such a high-level of production, it was really important not to get side-tracked by the infinite trickery available in the studio.

However, there's a whole section from about 9 minutes in where the mix is nothing but loops, overdubs, samples and scratching.  Plus the creation of a unique Tony Christie mash up just for this show!  Free-styling fun in the studio that is time-consuming and quite possibly completely lost on the audience.  Naughty little Mixbuster!"

The Mixbuster 'FIRE Radio - Aug 2005 (Part 4)'

The Mixbuster is a humanoid-hybrid who is usually found dissecting beats and creating magical megamixes. Audio creations constructed from the AI of The Mixbuster have been broadcast on analogue radio stations all over the world.  Human mix fans store these productions on primitive digital storage devices and play them at social gatherings to impress members of the opposite sex.

Currently, The Mixbuster is being rested in a cryogenic pod, somewhere in Mixatropolis, kept alive by a constant supply of Jaffa Cakes and an audio loop of fax machine sounds pumped directly into his frontal lobe.

Until the decision is made by the World Megamix Council to wake The Mixbuster from cryonic-status, you can re-visit classic creations here on the cloud of sound.
