Condition: Excellent. Super clean example of a late 50s Esquire. Essentially unfaded Blonde finish with halo edge. Very minimal lacquer checking. Light fingerboard wear from frets 1-7. Original frets are low but well dressed. Notably, the 'Esquire' portion of the decal is missing, and edges of the decal below 'Fender' indicate it may have gotten damaged at some point. It appears to have flaked off, as the shadow lines of 'Esquire' still remain as seen in the photos.

This guitar shows plenty of honest play wear throughout, and has a new lease on life thanks to a well done refret and nut replacement. The original stamped tuners were replaced early on by a set of Grover Rotomatics. An early Melita bridge (used often by Guild during this time period) accompanies the original Harp tailpiece, and all of the electronics are original to the guitar.

In what might be one of the lightest Telecasters we've ever had our hands on, this guitar would be considered a featherweight by 70s standards. Lively and resonant, we're instantly reminded of that feeling of those 50s and 60s standouts. Super comfortable weight combined with a wonderful medium C neck makes playability a breeze, even with some lean and low frets. The original pickups feel great as well - the neck pickup has a bit of a Strat-like quality to it, and the bridge pickup delivers all the Tele twang we love with a little more attitude. The earliest of the 70s Teles often share a lot of the desired features that make late 60s Teles so lauded, which continues to enhance their value. This one crossed the production line before the 3-bolt micro-tilt neck and addition of a second string tree, and some say that you end up with what is essentially a 67-69 spec Tele (without the maple cap neck of course).

Duke Levine Demos: 1971 Fender Telecaster (SN 306203)

This 1972 Fender Stratocaster in its original 3-tone Sunburst finish is a great example of an early 70s Fender. Carrying over much of the aesthetic of the late 60s version, Stratocaster deviates from a bit of that with it's 3-bolt neck and bullet truss rod. Beyond that, it presents as one of the most iconic looks for the double-cut. Original staggered polepiece pickups have great output and sound excellent with chirpy top end and a slightly scooped midrange - we hear instant early Big Star / Alex Chilton tone with this one!
