The aim to heal implies a wound is no longer being reopened, not tissue once whole still being separated from itself. These corresponding places of feeling bear the burden of joining, but as we sift through the wreckage of “us” we continue to nick ourselves, searching for a bridge where only a deepening chasm lays.

This mix features a myriad of Palestinian artists and artists in solidarity, field recordings, and verbal correspondences piecing together the fractured whole.

Ūmboma, is a collaboration between Omar Ahmad (@themusicofomar) and Miss Alicia (@okaymissalicia). Ūmboma is a project that emphasizes African, Arab and Latin American contemporary rhythms. A combination of Arabic, Swahili and Spanish words, Ūmboma signifies a Congregation of Freedom & Dance. Ūmboma do long-form journeys, starting with the experimental and psychedelic, moving into the rhythmic and euphoric. Here they present a studio mix of driving percussive house music in advance of their appearance at The Bunker at Good Room on July 20, 2024.

Ūmboma is a global-forward sound experience led by Miss Alicia and Omar Ahmad. Ūmboma blends of Afro, Arab, and Latin contemporary rhythms and energies that run from meditative & psychedelic, to frenetic and pulsing. Omar imbues live world drums into our sets to bridge the connection between the DJ booth and the audience, and they often invite attendees to play instruments they've brought along with with. The word Ūmboma is a combination of Swahili, Arabic, and Spanish words that translates to “a congregation of Freedom and Dance”. Ultimately they are seeking to cross borders and connect cultures (and spirits) through sound.

Notes on the Mix ///

"This mix is from our all night set from the Bunker back in July. We started that night with some mid tempo psychedelic rhythmic sounds then ramped up into a raucous peak that stayed high energy until the very end. This mix starts right when we were getting into peak time. In all of our sets we bounce off each other song by song in a very co-creative kind way. The music is a dynamic blend of Afro/Arab/latin global club tracks- almost like a dialogue between the cultures. There are different languages, chanting, etc all with a very percussive overlay. By this point we were really locked into building the vibes (and temperature!) of the room. We hope this mix not only makes listeners dance, but feel more connected to people around the world."
