A playlist full of tracks created by the writers, musicians and producers of our music community, "The MusiCollective" - this is the January 2025 edition, featuring a few fresh tunes and a couple of hits from past January playlists!

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this. We have a mix of complete recording newbies, seasoned pros and everything in between. All as incredible as each other.

The MusiCollective is a community of people that get behind each others' projects, for example by helping with songwriting, arrangements, recording and production. It is a continuation of TGS Records (@tgs-records) which started as a lockdown project and has been snowballing new members in ever since. TMC Records - January 2025 playlist

Mellow

A song inspired by the weirdness of dreaming. I basically started with "Once I had a dream", and it then turned into a bit of a semi-fictional dream journey, with rhymes and alliterations galore (I can't help it!). I was rushing to finish it for our monthly @themusicollective playlist, so just a demo stitched together from various fragments at this stage.

Verse 1
Once I had a dream I was the only one awake on Earth 
Floating barefoot through the streets, the moonlight pouring down on me 
I closed my eyes and tried to see behind woven wall of curtains, hiding happiness and hurt and murky swamps of memories

Chorus 
And I have no idea
Where I am, like the back of my hand, 
It’s so familiar yet so strange, it’s like
Someone came and stole the puzzle pieces from my brain
And rearranged them in a way I’ve never seen before.

Verse 2
The only sound I hear is my own thoughts madly galloping in circles round my head, with no way out and no way back 
And I can’t help but feel the answer to it all
Is right behind these silent walls and suddenly
A rope appears in front of me.

Chorus
And I have no idea
Where I am, like the back of my hand, 
It’s so familiar yet so strange, it’s like

And rearranged them in a way I’ve never seen before.

I grab the rope and hope I’m strong and light enough as I’m about to 
climb right up Rapunzel’s tower
Thank god I’m blessed with super powers.
When I jump into the room I find the only fair 
maiden that is waiting there for me
Is my good self, I’m fast asleep.

There’s colourful projections on the ceiling,
And I can’t shake that funny feeling 
this is nothing new I have seen it all before,
The open door pulls me away from scary dinosaurs and monsters, blurry silhouettes I can’t seedancing cats and guys I fancy,
Failed romance, forgotten friends and foes and death before new life grows, 
Condolences and sadness, awkward moments turn to madness
Manic laughter, tears and fears and wishful thinking, 
Both at ease and on the brink together side by side, the past is dark, the future’s bright,
There’s yesterdays with no tomorrow, happy endings, endless sorrow,
Borrowed books upon your shelf, no one to blame here but yourself.

Outro
Everything is clear is mud
Inside my head as I wake up
With nothing on the ceiling, but I can’t shake that funny feeling…
