FIXED LENS emerged from the smoke-filled basement rooms of Berlin’s DIY scene in 2021 with their eponymous debut EP. Cold, driving machinery beats and ethereal synths establish the foundation for melancholic, chorus-drenched post-punk guitars. Championing the spirit of guitar-driven bands such as JOY DIVISION, KILLING JOKE, CHAMELEONS UK, and THE SOUND, the group simultaneously nods to the roots of Berlin’s electronic origin story in these six tracks.

Can't Hardly Wait (The Replacements)

This is a fan-made remix of a band from Macclesfield where I grew up. In my view they had it all - great songs, great musicians and a strong local following, but they never got signed by a big label and never got the support they deserved. That said, I think Stock, Aitken and Waterman almost signed them (who knows what would they would have done to the sound of Officers and Gentleman). Lesser bands did get a deal and we talk about some of these bands now as though they are gods etc. Getting a good record deal along with the right level of promotion made a big difference to bands in the 1980s.

Officers and Gentlemen - Run To Him (KD Remix 2023)

Five years after their debut tape "Fairytape" (also on Kitchen Leg records) is time for the new, awaited music output from the Berlin/Dresden duo The Shna. The title is "Ciao Ciao" and the songs are again excellent! This time the focus on their music is more of weird pop and electronics, but still organic, vibrant and unique as before.

About the Shna: Double-voice meets Drums (Alam Weber) and Bass (Lina Walde). Sounds like Grunge, Indie, Pop, Riot Grrl and some own inventions. 7/8 meet 4/4 beats and Gertrude Stein-poetry neo-collages.
