Du temps où il s'appelait juste Jay Dee, le prolifique producteur de Détroit, enregistrait aux côtés de Phat Kat, un premier maxi annonçant un album qui ne verrait jamais le jour.  1st Down le nom de cette union fraternelle qui remonte à 1995, a inspiré le pianiste et producteur Eric Legnini dont l'amour pour la musique et la production Hip Hop n'est plus un secret. Crate digger (scrutateur de perles rares) à ses heures perdues, Eric profite d'une tournée au Japon, pour déterrer le maxi au Disk Union de Shibuya,Tokyo. De là lui vient l'idée de recréer sa propre rencontre inédite, avec  Phat Kat, Jay Dee (J. Dilla) et Common, passant la tête pour un caméo symbolique avec quelques skits du classique "I used to love h.e.r".
Calant ces acapella mythiques sur une nouvelle boucle, Eric Legnini réarrange ce mash up avec un nouvel atour instrumental, en l'occurrence la base mélodique du morceau "Sing Twice!", 1er titre de son album du même nom sorti en 2013. Le son de piano si clair contraste avec le cachet typique de la voix vieillie au vinyle, rajoutant au charme d'un côté, sans enlever à la fluidité du morceau de l'autre : Nous avons là toute l'expression du talent de maestros passionnés.






Back when he was known only as Jay Dee, the profilic producer from Detroit recorded (alongside rapper Phat Kat) a first Ep, that was meant to introduce an album that was never to be released. That was  back in1995.
The 1st Down project (A day wit the homiez) as this brotherly union was called, inspired pianist and producer Eric Legnini, who's love for Hip Hop music and production was no secret to his followers.  Astute Crate Digger, he unearthed this gem from the famous Disk Union store in Shibuya,Tokyo while touring Japan. He then imagined a virtual collaboration including Phat Kat, Jay Dee (aka J Dilla) and Common, lending a few classical skits from "I used to love h.e.r". Setting these cult acapellas on a fresh musical loop, Eric Legnini brings a news vibe to this mash up, using the melodic base from his song "Sing Twice!" taken from the album he released earlier this year. The clear cut piano sound contrasts with the typically wax-aged vocals, tremendously adding to the track's charm without taking away from it's smooth and easy flow : There my friends I give you the true expression of passionate maestros' talents!
